Please hold the people of Haiti in your prayers. The earthquake has had a devesting effect on this already poverty-stricken nation. In response to this tragedy, the United Church of Canada has launched an emergency appeal, asking all congregations for “donations designated for earthquake relief” and be made either through our local congregation or directly to The United Church of Canada’s national office at 3250 Bloor St. West, Suite 300, Toronto, Ont. Valentine’s Sunday (Feb. 14) begins an important week, as we think about the ways God has blessed us.

Rev. Nicola Skinner related how the vulnerable slip through the cracks, and passed on thanks that the congregation empowers her ministry, as God challenges ours, to bless others.

The young adult Newmarket choir, Voices of Joy, will help us celebrate at Sunday’s 10:30 a.m. Holy Communion service. We look forward with anticipation to this special choir, and share in their joy at Valentine’s, as their singing brings us the real meaning of the day. Let’s greet them over refreshments after. Nursery care is available.

Or, join Morning Prayer at 8 a.m. in the chapel, and stay as parishioners serve a monthly hot breakfast sharp at 9 a.m. for anyone who is hungry.

Shrove Tuesday (Feb. 16), the last evening before Lent begins, drop in for the annual Pancake Supper, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The cost $15 per family, $5 per person, and children younger than five are free. Join the home Alpha group as they enjoy pancakes first, and then move upstairs at 7 p.m. to watch a DVD with Nicky Gumbel speaking, and to discuss the Christian faith together.

Ash Wednesday (Feb. 17) begins the Easter journey through Lent, with services in the Chapel at noon and at 7 p.m. Children may be absent from school, to carpool (bring lunch) to Schomberg Parish in Lloydtown, 9 to 3:30, for activities related to this High and Holy Day of Christian faith.

Buy a ticket for the Scottish Ceilidh Feb. 26, at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy a Scottish supper, a piper, a Scottish caller for highland dancing, and a traditional pub quiz. Fun for all the family. The cost $20 each for adults and $5 for children.

For this year’s third Friday concert, visit All Saints’ at www.allsaintskingcity. com (click on Concerts). Composer Alexander Rapoport from the Faculty of Music, and Scarborough Campus, University of Toronto, brings outstanding musicians on clarinet, viola, and piano, in addition to acclaimed soprano Melanie Conly, March 5, at 8 p.m. With “Kegelstatt” meaning a bowling alley, Rapoport tells the legend that Mozart, excelling in billiards and ten-pins, actually composed the Kegelstatt Trio – one work on the program – in the bowling alley! He has composed another Trio just for All Saints’.

The church is at 12935 Keele St., just south of King Road, with the office open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Friday.

If you have friends who would like Holy Communion at home, or in a hospital or nursing home, please leave a message for Rev. Nicola Skinner at (905) 833-5432, or send an e-mail to allsaintsrev@ bellnet.ca
