Hats off to King Township on Communities in Bloom win

We have been named as the National Champion, winning the 2009 Communities in Bloom competition.

King Blooms Committee was delighted to accept the award, and feel it is a win “for King, by King.”

Indeed, without the thousands of individuals, organizations and businesses and all their acts of community involvement, heritage (natural and cultural) preservation and environmental conservation, including the tonnes of litter that so many anonymous residents daily retrieve from roadsides, this recognition would not have come to King Township.

Saturday, the City of Vaughan hosted the 15th edition of the Communities in Bloom National Awards Ceremony, honouring municipalities from Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland and Japan. Communities in Bloom is a Canadian nonprofit organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national program, with focus on the promotion of green spaces in urban settings. King has won in the 10,001 to 20,000 population category of the 2009 National Edition of Communities in Bloom, receiving a five-Bloom rating (the top level) and a special mention for the conservation of farmland and old growth forests.
