York — Simcoe Grits seeking candidate

The York — Simcoe federal Liberal riding association has struck a candidate search committee to find someone to challenge conservative incumbent Peter Van Loan.

"We are feeling very confident about our prospects," commented riding association President Rae Bowie. "The Conservative government has let down Canadians on many fronts. As well, local MP Van Loan continues to waste our tax dollars by spending on partisan flyers and promotional cheques."

Any prospective Liberal candidate would have to be prepared to launch a nomination campaign which primarily consists of selling memberships and ensuring that their team members come out to vote for them at the nomination meeting.

Local Liberals have already had a few individuals express interest in the opportunity at becoming the Liberal candidate, but none have officially declared themselves.

"It is still early days yet for the nomination process, but I would like to stress that the party would like us to have our candidate nominated soon as there is a possibility of a fall election," said Bowie.

Those interested in finding out more information are asked to contact Bowie at (905) 473-3461.
