King's Corners

Diocesan Girls Choir will perform at All Saints' Church Aug. 9

King City United Church

Submitted by

Shirley Burton

"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, he says: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward to you. As it is written: 'He has dispersed abroad, he has given to the poor; his righteousness remains forever.'" 2 Corinthians 11:6-9.

Church Announcements

While Pastor Bob is on vacation, (Aug. 1 to Aug. 29), we have been invited to worship at York Pines United Church. Service begins at 10:30 a.m. Should there be any pastoral emergencies during that time, Rev. Ross Carson will be available to you at (905) 727-8118. The next service at King City United will be Aug. 30, at 10 a.m.

Even though Nancy will not be keeping regular office hours throughout August, phone messages can be left at (905) 833-5181.

Sparrow Lake Camp has been booked again for Sept. 18 to 20. Join our church family as we relax and enjoy the rustic beauty of camp and the fun, food and fellowship it allows. The cost per family for the weekend is approximately $80 to $100. A $50 deposit is required as soon as possible so the church can submit our reservation deposit. If you require more information, please call Serena Edmunds at (905) 833-2707.

KCUC is preparing a new photo directory. The first date for photos will be Aug. 27.

Families with members at university or college and those who will be away in October are especially encouraged to plan for sittings this date.

Reminder to anyone taking digital pictures of Church events - please consider sending them to Wayne Smith at jwsmith@sympatico.ca

Information to be included in the local papers may be directed to Shirley Burton at (905) 787-1591.

Have a wonderful and safe summer.

All Saints' Anglican Church

Submitted by

Claire Alexander Last week some of our children joined the VBS day camp in Kettleby, and they all proudly sang and shared during Sunday's service at Christ Church what they had learned. All Saints' welcomes your family and guests on the long August weekend to meet in the chapel with us at 8 or 10 a.m. Stay a few moments after to greet others.

We're looking forward to meeting at 6 p.m. Aug. 5, in the foyer of the Art Gallery of Ontario for a tour of biblical paintings. Please register with Nicola.

The following Sunday (Aug. 9), following morning prayer in the chapel at 8 a.m., our monthly parish breakfast takes place at 9 a.m. Come and try us out - downstairs - for bacon, farm eggs, or other specialties, and meet parishioners from both services.

Stay for the 10 a.m. service, as we welcome the 40-voice Diocesan Girls Choir in the main sanctuary. A good crowd will affirm their efforts.

Afterward, you may want to take a look at the small stone Canterbury Cross in the sanctuary wall as you move into the Fellowship Room. From 1932, reproductions of this cross, affixed to pieces of stone from Canterbury Cathedral, were presented to each city's large Cathedral Church of the Anglican Communion throughout the world. Ours, also on a piece of 15th C. Caen stone from Canterbury, as a special gift of Col. and Mrs. J.G.K. Strathy, reminds us of our worldwide bonds.

The model comes from an 8th C. Saxon brooch unearthed during excavations in 1860 at a site in Canterbury.

Now called the Canterbury Cross, note its four equal arms forming an almost complete circle, with triangles representing the Trinity in each arm.

Aug. 16, Reverend Sister Constance Joanna, of the Anglican Sisterhood of St. John the Divine, will preach and celebrate Communion. Do meet her before she leads our retreat Nov. 27 to 28 at the Convent Guest House.

We continue to pray for our three link parishes in Mexico, and to support their music and crafts ministries. When Rev. Gillian and John Ball return to Cuernavaca this fall, we'll be sending down suitable music for stringed instruments for the youth learning to play viola, violin, and cello, an opportunity making a very big difference in their lives.

All Saints' Anglican Church, is at 12935 Keele St., King City (just south of King Road), and at www.allsaintskingcity.com

If you would like special prayer, or a hospital visit, contact Rev. Nicola Skinner at (905) 833-5432, or e-mail allsaintsrev@bellnet.ca

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church

St. Andrew's welcomed Andrew Fulford to our pulpit this week and looks forward to his return next Sunday while our pastor, Rev. Chris Carter, is on vacation.

We looked at Matthew 6 (consider the lilies . . .) and were encouraged to trust God who wants the best for us.

During the summer, our worship services continue to be held at 10:30 a.m.

We warmly invite you to join us.

Although Sunday school resumes in the fall, childcare and children's programming is available.

"Prayertime" continues to meet Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. in the lounge. Would you like prayer or do you want to share a praise item? You are welcome to join us or let the pastor know by calling the church office at (905) 833-2325.

Remember that Churchin the-Park is planned for the last four Sundays in August.

Don't forget your lawn chairs, hats and sunscreen. We look forward to a beautiful time worshipping outdoors, beside the church, under the maples. We hope you will join us.
