KTBA weekly roundup: Big wins for King teams this week

Submitted by Lynn Maclachlan Publicity Director, KTBA

T-Ball Action

The Schomberg IGA Cobras faced the Filebank Records Cobras at home this week and showed their supporters that all their practice is paying off. In the first inning, Tyler Oletic was all over the ball as shortstop, getting it to first base for the first out of the game on the lead-off hitter. Jeffery Long's solid defensive action stopped additional runs with a hard, accurate throw to home. Not to be outdone on defence, Brandon Petrova, Daniel Sansone and Sarah Bindi were quick at stopping the balls and relaying them to the bases.

The team showed off their awesome t-ball skills while at bat, all consistently hitting singles throughout the game. Special mention goes to Carlo Dutra and Tyler Oletic, who each made solid contact, blasting their hits deep into the outfield. Though it was drizzly, both teams played with high spirits and the spectators cheered on with loud applause. No sand castle building in this game. Player of the game was Tyler Oletic.

Mosquito Action Northern Air Mosquito King team KM1 triumphed over Bradford 7-4 in Nobleton in a closelycontested match, in which more than 40 loyal fans, some from as far away as B. C., were treated to a great game.

The key to the win was a trio of pitchers on KM1 being very stingy on the mound in giving up hits to Bradford. Zachary Long, Tyler Radell and Daniel Pignataro combined to pitch a spectacular game for Northern Air. They scattered hits over five innings to give Northern Air its sixth win of the season in nine games played.

Key RBI hits by Jake Bernhardt and Andrew Dinopolous of Northern Air were produced when needed. Jake also did an admirable job as a catcher, easily tossing balls to second base to fend off any Bradford Runners trying to steal. At the plate Leighton Costanzo and Thomas Galt were hit by pitches that brought them to the ground, but they were able to recover and eventually cross the plate for much needed runs by Northern Air. Adam Caccchione was once again solid at the plate, going twofor two to continue his hot hitting streak this season, while Scott Cameron brought in the go ahead run when it was his turn to come to bat. Tyler Radell pitched a clean inning, facing only four batters and was chosen Player of the Game.

Bantam Action Phoenix Electric King Cobras

Last Thursday night in Nobleton the Phoenix Electric King Cobras played a double header against Georgina's Cash Store. Game one closed with a score of 18-10 and game two wrapped up with a score of 19-3, both games in favor of the Cobra's.

Austin Almadi started off on the mound. The Phoenix Electric team watched proudly as he got a strikeout his first time pitching this season. With a nice catch from Marshall Perone for a second out, the team was well on their way to a successful game. The boys let in more runs than they would have liked this inning, but slowly made it up when they got up to bat.

There were ample batting highlights of the this game, including an in-the-park home run by Andrew Cipollone that gave Travis Brinovec the run of his life. Austin hit two doubles, Stewart Burman hit a double and the boys' RBI stats were off the charts. Taylor Joseph and Pat Price each had three RBIs, Andrew and Travis each had two RBIs, and Stewart, Austin, and Thomas each had one RBI.

Although there were also many defensive plays worth mentioning, some that really stood out include a catch by Stewart in the second inning to make the inning three up three down. An out by Tristan Joseph at home for a third out in the third inning and an awesome throw by Andrew to Taylor for an out at first base that were just exceptional.

The second game of the night brought about just as many highlights. Tristan had a great game on the mound with two strikeouts and only one run scored against him, Joe also showed the team what he could do when it was his turn on the hill.

Batting highlights in game two included a nice slide home by Stewart. It was a close call but he knew he was safe. Joe hit one past the short stop for a single that brought in Taylor and Pat, Austin had an RBI and Travis had his wheels going again to make it safe to first base. In the second inning Tristan hit a curve ball past first base for a single and you could hardly catch a glimpse of Jonathan Mele, who was by far our quickest base runner in both games that night.

It was a lot of baseball for one evening, so choosing a player of the game was difficult. The team would like to mention Andrew Cipollone for his outstanding batting, Thomas Capon for rising to the occasion both offensively and defensively and Marshall Perone who saved us with his glove numerous times throughout these two games.

It was a great week for the boys and they have two more to look forward to next week. Monday and Thursday night at the Civic Centre against Georgina.

Bantam Action - King All-Care

King All-Care travelled to Sutton with a limited roster of eight players to take on the Georgina Ben's Pharmacy squad. Allcare started the game with hits from Aidan Romeril, Jesse Schneider Jordan Upiter and Steven Leonard reaching base and scoring.

The boys finished the inning with five runs. Steven Leonard kept the Georgina team in check for three innings with fine defense from Andreas Kentris and Zach Schofield. With two on in the third inning, Steven Leonard missed a home run by a couple of feet from the outfield fence, scoring the two runs and reaching second. Steven then stole second and then continued to steal third, scoring another run.

From the fourth to the fifth innings Allcare cooled off their bats and coupled with lazy pitching from Kentris gave up some weak runs to Ben's Pharmacy. In the end Allcare breezed to a 12-7 win. Player of the game was Steven Leonard.

Peewee Action

July 7, Fireplace Stop scored eight runs to Sutton Legion's 4four runs. Winning pitcher was Will Maclachlan with Matthew Ardizzi earning the save. Kamren Wallbank had a very productive game, producing two singles and a double while at bat, earning Player of the Game honours. Runs were also produced by Harry Bateman, Marcus Beretta, Cameron Wells, Steven Sansone, Dante Caracciolo, Will Maclachlan, Matthew Fiorini and Steve Oletic.

It was a tough loss Thursday evening to the Sutton Legion team with a final score of 14-10. Walks were earned by all players in addition to single hits by Kamren Wallbank, Matthew Fiorini, Aydden Almadi, Kyle Symonds and Marcus Beretta. Marcus Beretta earned Player of the Game honours.
