Schomberg's Julie Watchorn performs well in Quebec

Inclement weather was the main event June 26, the second day of FEI competition at the CDI-W Blainville International Classic Dressage Show held in Blainville, Quebec.

Fortunately for most of the international competitors, the storm clouds rolled in after their day in the show ring was over; but heavy rain, wind, thunder and lightning caused organizers to postpone the Grand Prix Special until Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, a large starting field of 20 horses contested the FEI Intermediaire I with Belinda Trussell of Stouffville taking top honours on a score of 67.807 per cent riding Laconit. Julie Watchorn of Schomberg, was second on Quintesse with a score of 67.105 per cent.

Things improved in the Intermediaire Freestyle competition the following day for Watchorn. She rode Quintesse to the win.

With difficult choreography which began with two tempi flying changes on centre line followed by a pirouette, Watchorn and her 16- year-old Belgian Warmblood mare performed harmoniously, particularly in the canter tour.

Mares swept the top three placings in the class with Trussell finishing second with 71 per cent with Stephanie Jeffrey's Brynn and Lee Tubman of Dunnville placing third with 68.15 per cent with Ducat Developments' De La Rosa.
