Councillor responds I read Peter Grandilli's letter in last week's Sentinel with interest and some consternation. I have worked very closely with the Township's operations department and the CAO to come up with reasonable alternatives for the implementation of the Nobleton sewer project; recognizing that a significant portion of the local residents see neither a desire or a need for the project. I have also consistently advised Township staff and council that I felt the proposed costs were too high and that work was needed to bring those costs down. This has resulted in some (unfortunately) unsuccessful grant applications, but it's my understanding that Township staff continues to review opportunities to reapply for grant money. In hindsight, it is unfortunate that the deal with Slokker Canada was not more lucrative or beneficial for King Township; but this is a situation I inherited. With regard to the sidewalks and storm drains that Mr. Grandilli requests, it might be perceived as difficult to lower costs to the residents while significantly increasing project expenses; and quite frankly, Mr. Grandilli is the only resident who has ever suggested to me directly that this is wanted. Finally, with regard to the Schomberg Arena, I am thrilled that King Township was successful in receiving such a significant grant; but that thrill is tempered by the realization that an additional $5 million must come from somewhere to make this project a reality; and potentially at the expense of other projects.
