This Sunday (June 14) wear your casual clothes to church at 8 or 10:30 a.m. After the later service, pick up a map to carpool to the beautiful grounds of the Burns' farm. Barbecued hotdogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be provided. Do join us to enjoy lots of farm animals, a bouncy castle, and races for children and adults.

Bring a friend, and lawn chairs, and get to know a few others, as you sit over lunch. Bring a potluck item in your cooler - hors d'oeuvres, salad, or a dessert to share.

This year, we are joining the parish of Christ Church Kettleby, and carpooling our kids, aged four to 13 to their fun-filled Summer Camp, for the week of July 20 to 24 The cost is $80. E-mail our church by June 30, if you are interested.

On a historical note, the well-known Langstaff name on the family gravestone is still visible in our cemetery. A York Region community and a road carried the name, as well as Langstaff Secondary School and a former public school in Thornhill. Three generations of Langstaff doctors descended from John Langstaff, who arrived in 1808 from New Jersey — John's son James; his son Rolph Lewis Langstaff and wife Lillian (Carroll), both doctors; and their son James Rolph.

The elder Rolph, known later in life as Lewis, brought in milk pasteurization, according to Rural Roots, and arranged that Richmond Hill's water supply be chlorinated. Our own Lewis, turning 90 in August, is a grandson of that namesake.

The 1982 historical book All Saints' Onward March has a note for 1887. Anna M. Langstaff deeded to the Incorporated Synod of the Diocese of Toronto 4/5 acre, N.W. Lot 5, west half of Concession 3. Can anyone discover who Anna was? Tell us at the picnic.

As students complete the end of term, we encourage them to finish well, and wish them a safe and happy summer.

Please leave a message with Dawn Ballard at (905) 833-5488, or the church office, if you know of shutins or lonely neighbours who would like to be brought to a Eucharist in the Chapel June 23, at 11 a.m., followed by the pastoral spring lunch.

If you would like special prayer, or a hospital visit, contact Rev. Nicola Skinner at (905) 833-5432, or e-mail to allsaintsrev@bellnet.ca
