Enbridge announces alternate route for line

By David Anderson

Enbridge presented an alternate route for a gas power pipeline Tuesday in front of a crowd of King residents at Holland Marsh District School.

The pipeline will supply gas for the peaker plant, slated to be built near Ansnorveldt.

The pipeline is planned to start in Schomberg at 4953 Gate Station, near the Lloydtown/Aurora Road, and end at the York Energy Centre site at 18781 Dufferin St.

Edwin Makkinga, environmental health specialist for Enbridge, said the first open house they held in April was to study different areas in King, which could be appropriate.

"We tried to identify out of the four different routes we had, which one would be the best based on socio-economic features and the public's comments," Makkinga said.

Makkinga said Enbridge decided on the current location because it had the least number of driveways.

"We hope to have this finalized by mid June we still need to get approval by the Ontario Energy Board and once that's done we can start to build," Makkinga commented.
