Easter Sunrise service will be at King City United this year

Church announcements Next week's reflection will be Much-needed sustaining prayer, based on Luke 22:24-27,39-46. Bible Challenge 2 — Pick up your syllabus today. It's not too late to start. This coming week, we will be reading within Isaiah, Chapters 12-18. The Youth Group will be hosting their annual Palm Sunday pancake breakfast April 5 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The cost will be $5 for adults and $12 for family. Next Thursday (April 9) Maundy Thursday, we will share an informal commemoration of Jesus' Last Supper, at 7 p.m. Easter, April 12, will be a good day to get up early. This year, it will be King City United's turn to host the annual Easter Sunrise Service for King City. We will gather for a special, joyous celebration at 7 a.m. Pastor Bob would appreciate having a few more volunteer helpers, for readings, coffee, juice and muffins. May 3 is the anniversary Sunday. Please plan to bring a lunch and stay after church to enjoy a concert. We are looking for performers who are interested in celebrating with their musical or dramatic talents. Please note: The date of the Anniversary Tea has been changed to May 2, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. It will feature a display of antique hats, gloves and scarves. All Saints' Anglican Church Submitted by Claire Alexander Thrilled with the warming sun, and spring bulbs poking up, we can identify with the excitement of festive crowds pouring in to Jerusalem, as Jesus rode in on a donkey's colt, to cheering hosannas. Here, at All Saints' this Sunday (April 5), with Holy Week beginning meet at 8 a.m. in the chape,l; or join the Palm Sunday procession with palms at 10:30 a.m. In the pageant reading, Alex Ogden will take the role of Caiaphas, the high priest. When coffee hour follows, join us to wish him God's blessing, and celebrate his 90th birthday. This coming Tuesday (April 7), come to watch the movie The Gospel of John, narrated by Christopher Plummer, on the big screen at 7 p.m. Maundy Thursday (April 9), at 7 p.m., is the symbolic footwashing, as we recall how Jesus washed the disciples' feet at the Last Supper, and left us a commandment to love one another. Sharon Rowlandson will bring the homily. The Good Friday Solemn Liturgy is sung at noon April 10. Come and be moved by the reading of the betrayal and passion of Jesus, by silence for reflection and by the beautiful music brought to us by an enhanced choir. Rev. Chris Carter invites all to an earlier Good Friday ecumenical service, with a cantata, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 13190 Keele St., Holy Saturday, April 11, meet at All Saints' at 7:30 p.m., to carpool to the Easter Vigil. We'll meet in the rich warmth of the L'Arche Community, Richmond Hill, with those who, despite major handicaps, bless us by their faith, at 11339 Yonge St. (east side). April 12, enjoy the community's short 7 a.m. outdoor, ecumenical Easter Sunrise Service, at King City United Church, when the Rev. Bob Biggar invites you to share Easter joy. Return to All Saints' for 8 or 10:30 a.m., Easter Sunday, to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ with Rev. Nicola Skinner. At 10:30, with a nursery available, enjoy pipe organ and choir, and Holy Communion open to all. Feel free to return to church for Easter. Stay for coffee, introduce yourself and meet new friends. Drop off white elephant and boutique items until April 11 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Friday), for the famous April 25 Rummage Sale, and help sort Tuesday mornings. This Sunday we welcome you to our Palm Sunday worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday school and nursery care are provided. The Choir will be singing Hosanna in the Streets from the Easter Cantata, and Come, Touch the Robe by Pepper Choplin. This beautiful Easter Cantata will be performed at the Community Good Friday Service at St. Andrew's April 10 at 9:30 a.m. The Maundy Thursday Service is at 7:30 p.m., April 9. Easter Sunday will be celebrated with Communion at our worship service at 10:30 a.m. The Saturday morning work parties continue to transform the upper classroom. Can you lend a hand at cleaning and priming the walls? Teenagers, do you need volunteer hours? We are eagerly looking forward to seeing the new paint and carpet. Also, the Auxiliary and Missions group is hosting a Trunk and Bake Sale in the church parking lot May 30 from 9 a.m. to noon. If you have a craft or "treasures" to sell from your trunk and want to reserve a spot, contact the church office. The cost is $20 per vehicle. Seniors' euchre The top player among the ladies March 20 euchre play at King City Seniors' Centre was Anne Warner (57 points), followed by Dot Cloutier and Mary O'Brien (55) and Milla Eigelshoven (33). At the men's tables, things were led by Gord Fawcett (58), followed by Cliff Kettlewell (57) and Dorothy Gillies (37). Draw winners were Cliff Kettlewell, Ron Coles and Marilyn Munroe. The next euchre evening will be April 3, starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
