Our thanks to King City United Church for inviting the community to the World Day of Prayer Friday. The theme, "In Christ there are many members but one body," proved itself true. The women of Papua New Guinea, on the opposite side of the globe, united us in heart with their 800 languages, illiteracy, violence, HIV/AIDS and lack of a voice. But in their faith, they also shared crafts, desserts, and the beauty of the island.
As some families prepare for March break travels, we wish you a safe and happy time away. Others will be glad that spring falls a day early, March 20.
For those at home, we welcome you to join All Saints' this coming Sunday (March 15). Come for Holy Communion at 8 a.m. in the chapel; or bring the family at 10:30, when the Alexander band will bring their calypso-style gospel music to our worship.
The Marion Singers sang a cappella Saturday evening, with seven women and nine men, directed by Tony Browning. Their resonating, perfect pitch, without accompaniment, drew us from the 16th and 19th centuries to the present; and from Viadana to Bruckner to Ontario's Eleanor Daley. Lively renditions of Ain't Got Time to Die, and Battle of Jericho, moved on to Sing Me to Heaven, Little Bo- Peep, and a slow, chugging train. A big thank you to the Marion Singers for this generous fund-raiser toward the landscaping.
Join us either Monday evening, from 7 to 8:30, or Tuesday afternoon, from 1:30 to 3, as Sharon leads us in discussing Luke, the gospel written by a Gentile doctor. We finish with John's Gospel the following Monday and Tuesday (March 23 and 24). Use the office (east) door.
Our Lenten Tuesday evenings continue at 7 p.m., with a gentle service of prayers and anointing for healing - for yourself or for someone else in need.
All are welcome.
Watch this space for our Palm Sunday (April 5), Holy Week, and Easter Sunday events. A special ecumenical service takes place Good Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Don't miss the famous Rummage Sale April 25. Drop off white elephant items, books and CDs, and serviceable clothing - but not shoes - from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Friday, until April 11. Or, call to make an appointment to drop off good, used furniture, but no electronics. Come Tuesday mornings to sort, from 9:30 to noon.
Tickets coming! KingFest brings the Elmer Iseler Singers to All Saints' May 3. And the Ladies' Dinner is coming up May 7, with Chef Ian Rodger.
All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is south of King Road, and open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday to Friday. See www.allsaintskingcity.com

My new attitude for life
Dust if you must, but bear in mind, old age will come and it's not kind. And when you go - and go you must, you, yourself, will make more dust.
Pastor Bob's reflection for next week will be on House-cleaning at God's House — how fitting!
This past Friday was a great afternoon for the four churches of King City as they met for World Day of Prayer.
"In Christ there are many members, yet one body."
This theme reminds us of our need to be ecumenical and to look at our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world as our family. The donations from this day go to the needs of others throughout the world. All the churches took part in the service, which was prepared by the women of New Guinea. A display was set up with a map showing the location of the country and the fruits grown there. They were featured in the breads and desserts served. Thanks to 50 to 60 people who attended.
There will be no Sunday school March 15 and 22 for March break. It will resume March 29.
We extend our sympathy to the family of Allan Smith, who passed away Feb. 28 in his 94th year. He was husband of the late Vi Smith, both former members of KCUC.
King City United will have Neil Hetherington, CEO of Habitat For Humanity, speaking to us March 29 about the role Habitat plays in our community and throughout the world. Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will follow.
Prayers this week are for Rosemary's family in Sri Lanka for their safety in the turmoil there. Also for John's return to full recovery as he works with rehab, and for Shirley's return to good health. Also don't forget Mildred, as she copes with her rehab.
There are still a few tickets left for our Irish Dinner and Entertainment this Saturday (March 14) starting at 6 p.m. A fun evening with Irish music on the piano by our own Greg Balsdon, some memories with readings of The Outhouse and The Rural Partyline. Our feature will be The Irish Dancers from the Nobleton School of Dance. Tickets are $15 each, or $35 for a family of four. Call (905) 833-1631.
