Families raced against time, others and mosquitoes in this year's mock Amazing Race at Cold Creek Conservation Area, last weekend.
Part of Get Active Day organized by the Township of King, families were given the opportunity to show off their sportsmanship skills. Competing in a scavenger hunt, archery (tossing a football at a target) and obstacle course.
Chris Fascinao, recreational supervisor for the Township and the director of the evente, said the game was modeled completely from the CBS hit series The Amazing Race.
"What we got going on here today is an Amazing Race type game," said Fascinao. "Families will compete in different types of activities and are given a clue after each event that consists of questions about our town."
One family, the Atkinson's from Nobleton, said that it's a day to forget one's loads in life. As well, it keeps the children occupied.
"This is a great idea put on by the town," said Ed Atkinson.
The Atkinson's included mom and dad, Ed and Sandra and their children Sebastian, 10, twins Pedro and Alexandro, 6, and Morella, 2.
"Today has been great," commented Sandra. "The only problem I've had was the mosquitoes, but it comes with the territory."
Nyssa Leivovitz, 19, program coordinator with the Township day camp and the supervisor of the scavenger hunt area, said the race's initiative is to get families active and more importantly together.
"This is a very family oriented event as well as it is getting people active," said Leivovitz.
