ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

King City Phil Owen Owen, 18, was a defensive wizard for the senior boys' baseball team during the University of Toronto Invitational tournament last Friday. The Lions' second baseman/third baseman was aggressive, diving for balls and throwing out runners in his team's three games in the tournament (one win, two losses). The Grade 12 student has also played tennis during his years at KCSS. Owen's tight defence in the infield must come from his strong pitching with the undefeated (12-0) Ontario Blue Jays elite team of the PBCO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario), where the starting pitcher is currently 3-0. This league is 18 and under, as the teams play NCAA, college and other American elite teams. He is currently weighing his options about which school (either in the U.S. or Canada) to play baseball at next year. He lives in Oak Ridges with his parents Richard and Charlene Owen.
The Country Day School Jesse Longo Longo, 18, is the captain and centre-fielder for the CDS senior boys' softball team, which currently stands with a 3-3 record. The Grade 12 student has been the softball MVP for the past two years, as he anchors the CDS defence in centre-field with clutch catches and throws. He plays the game with great desire to win and loses with class and character and is also a solid teammate by providing constructive and positive feedback. At CDS he also plays soccer and hockey, which he is the team captain. Outside of school he plays rep soccer for the KNSC (Kleinburg Nobleton Soccer Club) Lions and AA hockey for the Vaughan Rangers. He lives in King City with his parents Joe and Donna Longo.
Villanova College Jonas Tsui Tsui, 17, is a dedicated and disciplined athlete who plays three sports with Knights athletics at Villanova. Currently the Grade 11 student participates in long jump, the 200-metre dash, javelin and is the lead runner for the 4 x 100 metre relay for the track and field team at the senior boys' level. The hard working athlete never misses any practices for any team, whether it's football (tight end and slot back) or even the basketball team (small forward). He lives in Richmond Hill and his parents are Thomas Tsui and Chin - Yu Kwok.
