Senators are different from MPs

I would like to thank Bill Rea for his insightful comments regarding parliamentary reform in the May 7 Sentinel, especially his endorsement of the status quo as it pertains to the Senate.

One of the clearest indicators of poor leadership is the quelling of dissenting opinion: too bad this is the essence of democracy, and a principal function of the Senate.

A senator has a completely different culture from a MP: a senator can actually work for the good of Canada, whereas the MP always has re-election and "what to do if not elected" in their mindset.

Bill's suggestion that MPs speaking their mind would also be a positive addition to parliamentary reform is marvelous.

However in the light of "poor leadership" mentioned above it is also unlikely.

How to get a wider audience than King Township for this editorial is a problem.

As another topic of discussion for parliamentary reform, what about the U.S. "two terms only?"

Chuck Jollifffe,
