Missed chance to be 'pro-active' We all know the scenario so well. Dinner is over, the husband clears his throat and says to his wife, "You are a wonderful woman, but . . . " That "but" says it all. Her world has fallen apart and she realizes everything is forever changed. So it was at King Township council April 28. Many King residents had come to support the motion that council should simply write a letter to the Ontario Power Authority to state that King was an unwilling host to the gas-fired generator. Other areas were doing it, and not to write such a letter left the Township looking like it supported having the generator in King. But first Councillor Linda Pabst, then Deputy Mayor Bill Cober and then Mayor Margaret Black, as though in chorus said, "My King is as green as anyone's, but . . ." They were, of course, supported by Councillor Jack Rupke and once again King lost the chance to be pro-active for the environment. You had to be there to see the sadness in the faces of those who once again had trusted that the council would listen. Gill Watt, King City |
