ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Josh Caruso
King City

Josh Caruso

Caruso, 15, struck out eight, as he pitched only three innings against Clarington in a tournament in Port Hope this past weekend. The Lions varsity boys' baseball team finished second in the tournament with wins against Clarington, 6-1, and Anderson, 6-5, but lost to St. Mary's in the finals, 8-1. The Grade 10 student was also on the boy's junior football team this season. The King City native has also played midget hockey for NobleKing. He lives with his parents John and Marylin Caruso.

The Country Day School

Tony Gravets

Gravets, 17, was a starter in the hooker position for the CDS senior boys' rugby team during their recent trip to Sandy Springs, Maryland. He played all three games in Maryland and was the only rookie to do so. The Grade 11 student has a reputation of playing rugby with class and character and as a result won the U-16 boys' rugby MVP in 2007. The CDS senior rugby program won the CISAA Tier 1B championship last year and decided as a team to advance to Tier 1A. With the increased competition, Gavets took the role of playing as the starting hooker and he didn't disappoint as he won all of the team's scrums, which helped make the transition easier for the whole team. He lives in Thornhill with his parents Nona and Alexander Gravets.

Nick Crain

Crain, 17, is being recruited and has visited more than a dozen universities across Canada with aspirations to play football on a scholarship in the fall. The Grade 12 student is currently undecided on his choice. Crain has worked relentlessly to become a bona fide quarterback for the Villanova Knights, which has translated into becoming the captain and leader of the team. He has produced 1,400 yards in passing with 10 touchdown passes in just eight games. Crain also played golf for Villanova and qualified for OFSAA last fall. The King City native also plays football for the Storm Football Club and lives with his parents Viveca and Ed Crain.
