Proverbs 28:13-14 Special afternoon tea To celebrate the 137th anniversary of King City United Church, the United Church Women are presenting a Victorian Tea this Saturday (May 3) from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Please join us for delicious teas, fancy sandwiches and dessert. There will be a display of antique cups and saucers, creamers, sugar dishes and many other accessories. Musical entertainment is to be provided by Marianne Kennedy. Supervision for pre-schoolers will be available while you enjoy your tea. Please join us for this lovely afternoon. Tickets are available from Betty Beaton at (905) 833-5002, Joyce Glass and Jean Kell, and also at the door. The cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 10 years. Men are also invited. Volunteers are asked to join the annual spring clean up on the church grounds this Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome and bring a rake, shovel, or whatever is needed for the clean up. Anniversary Sunday is May 4. Everyone is welcomed to our morning church service, starting 10 a.m, with Sunday school at the same time. Following the service there is to be a chili lunch. Rev. Don Bell, former Minister at York Pines United Church, is to be our guest speaker. In our anniversary celebration, our Sunday school children are to be presenting an evening of song and praise at 7 p.m. The children have worked very hard for the past few months preparing for this event for all in the community to enjoy. Please join us for a memorable evening. If you and your family would be interested in a wonderful weekend at Sparrow Lake, it is to be Sept. 12 to 14. In order to confirm you reservation, please pass along a cheque in the amount of $50, payable to King City United Church. The total cost, (including the deposit) for the weekend is to be approximately $80 per family. We now have all our host homes - thank you all - but we are still in need of prize donations. Registration is to take place May 4, 11 and 25. The race is to start promptly 1 p.m. and finish with a barbecue dinner. The cost is $5 per participant. Teams can be anywhere from two to six people. For further information, please contact Daniela, Marie or Serena, through the church. Information to be included in the local papers may be directed to the church office no later than Friday at noon. The communications committee will ensure that it is submitted to the newspapers. King City United Church is one block south of King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. All Saints' Anglican Church Submitted by Claire Alexander Flowers are already blooming, and May is bringing lots of exciting events for spring. The first is our garage sale. This Saturday (May 3), come to the front steps of the church for more treasures. Early birds get the best choice, with the sale running 8 a.m. to noon. This Sunday (May 4), at 8 a.m., we meet for the "said" Holy Eucharist in the Chapel, and the monthly bagel breakfast cycle starts once again, with those 12 and over coming at 9 a.m. Michael Ballard will be helping us to learn about Resiliency, or How to Keep Bouncing Back. Come for the 10:30 a.m. service of worship in the Sanctuary. Enjoy the pipe organ and choir, nursery supervision, and Sunday school, and stay for refreshments following the service. This coming Tuesday evening (May 6), our youth group will be coming around, following their 6 p.m. barbecue, to collect for the King Township Food Bank. Call the office to encourage them to make a pick up of any the following items: tea and instant coffee; cereals; dried soups and meal extenders; and canned meats, tuna, salmon, and fruit. May 8 is the incomparable Women's Dinner, with special entertainment- and tickets ($30) are almost gone. Fifty days after Passover, the disciples waited for the promised Holy Spirit, whose coming we recall Pentecost Sunday (May 11). That day, Canada joins 200 nations in a Prayer for the World, on the Global Day of Prayer. Since Pentecost falls on Mother's Day, we also stress the importance of a mother's prayers. Leading things at the men's tables was Jack Wear (86), followed by Gord Fawcett (77) and Anne Warner (35) Draw winners were Karen Fawcett, Dorothy Gillies and Roy Cairns.
