Tickets available for King City Seniors 20th anniversary open house Kingcrafts Arts Guild Kingcrafts is pleased to be taking part in the Arts Society King (ASK) Studio Tour King this Saturday and Sunday (April 26 and 27) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Members will have items on display and for sale. There will be demonstrations both days at the house from 1 until 4 p.m. Some of the crafts being demonstrated are copper and silver enameling, painting with acrylics, traditional rug hooking, weaving, stained glass and quilting. If you have ever thought of taking up any of these crafts, feel free to join us. Studio tour maps will be available at the house. It's a great way to start your tour. New members are always welcome. All Saints' Anglican Church Submitted by Claire Alexander All Saints' invites you to meet new friends while volunteering one morning. The church indoor clean-up is this Saturday (April 26) from 9 to noon, with donuts and coffee provided. This Sunday (April 27), at 8 a.m., we meet for the "said" Holy Eucharist in the Chapel. For the 10:30 a.m. service in the Sanctuary, with the pipe organ and choir, we offer nursery supervision, Sunday school, and refreshments following the service. May 6, our youth group will be coming around, following their barbecue to collect for the King Township Food Bank. Call the office for a pick up of the following items: tea and instant coffee; oatmeal and dry cereals; canned meats, tuna, salmon, and fruit; dried soups and meal extenders such as Rice-a- Roni and Side-Kicks; peanut butter; rice, oatmeal and cold cereals; and Rice Krispie squares. The Women's Fabulous Dinner with entertainment is coming up. Mark on your calendar for May 8, and order your tickets early for this amazing experience into the culinary realm, cooked by the men. Forty days after Easter, we remember the Ascension of Jesus Christ, following his Resurrection, as depicted in our beautiful stained glass windows. Ten days later, or 50 days after Easter, we commemorate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the disciples and friends waiting for the power of God for ministry, in the person of the promised Comforter. This year, Pentecost Sunday falls on Mother's Day (May 11), when the children's frontal, painted with flames of fire, will cover the altar. The Food Bank will be open for York Region families this Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., using the Atrium (parking lot) door. Families interested in a week-long Vacation Bible School this coming summer, are encouraged to email allsaintsrev@eol.ca (EOL). Seniors' anniversary open house and dinner Tickets are now available for the King City Seniors' Centre's special 20th anniversary open house and dinner, to be held June 20. The gala celebration commences with an open house social at 3 p.m. in the Centre, followed by a catered banquet with all the trimmings in the Gord Orr Community Hall at 5 p.m. The cost is $20 per person and members are advised to get their tickets early. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Submitted by Kathy Patterson Sunday was a perfect day for the Youth Group to meet outside in the park before church. A great start to a beautiful day. The Book Study discussed the third chapter of Ortberg's If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat. It's not too late to join us at 9:15 a.m. Sunday for coffee and discussion in the lounge. Call for a book. We'll be discussing the fourth chapter this week. The Sunday school and nursery care were busy during the service, which saw two of their teachers, Bill Patterson and Dirk deRoos, become ordained as Elders. Wednesday is Prayer and Praise at 7:30 p.m. which is open to all and held in the pastor's study. This Friday, the Busy Moms have an outing planned. Contact Miriam at (905) 833-1475 for more information. Breakfast with Mom is May 10 at 9:30 a.m. for the ladies and daughters. The girls in the Youth Group are hosting the event. Tickets are $5 or $3 for girls 10 and under. There will also be an opportunity to donate towards our World Vision Foster Child. King City United Church Submitted by Shirley Burton King City United Church is one block south of King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. Volunteers are being sought for the annual spring clean-up on the church's grounds. It will be May 3, from 9 a.m. until noon. Everyone is welcome, and bring a rake, shovel, etc. It's time to dress up the grounds and gardens, and get things ready for planting. A tea is being planned to celebrate the church's 137th anniversary. The United Church Women are planning this Victorian Tea, with displays of old tea cups, saucers, cream and sugar dishes and other accessories to be shown. Marlanne Kennedy is to be entertaining us with her musical talent. Supervision for pre-school children is to be provided while you enjoy your tea. Let's support this lovely afternoon with your presence. Tickets are available from Betty Beaton at (905) 833-5002, Marie Biggar at (905) 833-9832 or any UCW member. The cost is just $7 for adults and $4 for children. Oh yes, men are also invited. May 4 is anniversary Sunday. Everyone is welcome to our morning church service, starting at 10 a.m., with Sunday school. Following the service, there will be a chilli lunch. In our aanniversary celebration, our Sunday school children are to be presenting an evening of song and praise at 7 p.m. They have been working very hard for the past few months preparing for this event for all in the community to enjoy. Please join us for a memorable evening. If you and your family would be interested in a wonderful weekend at Sparrow Lake, it will be Sept. 12 to 14. In order to confirm you reservation, please pass along a cheque in the amount of $50, payable to King City United Church. The total cost (including the deposit) for the weekend will be approximately $80 per family. It's time to start thinking about the fourth annual King City Amazing Race, which is to be held June 7, starting at 1 p.m. This is a very popular event that many people are already looking forward to. Host homes are still being sought, along with a barbecue host and donations of door prizes. If you are able to help in any of these areas, please speak to Marie Biggar, Daniela Weston of Serena Edmunds. The cost will be $5 per person. Information to be included in the local papers may be directed to the church office no later than Friday at noon. The communications committee will ensure that it is submitted to the newspapers.
