Bi-annual lead testing predominantly for private residential water taps A community wide sampling and testing program is under way to check for lead in King Township's water piping. As part of measures introduced by the Province in June 2007 to reduce the presence of lead in drinking water, the Township will sample and test water from its municipal distribution systems and private properties services by municipal supply. Samples have been collected already, and will be again between Jun. 15 and Oct.15. The majority of samples will be taken from private residential water taps, informed Director of Operations Jody LaPlante. The Township will need to hire an additional staff member to collect samples, since King has the highest number of samples to be collected in York Region, said LaPlante. The Township previously was required to test for lead on an annual basis, and staff reported "zero" readings for lead at each of the four distribution systems. The Township will notify participants of their results only if there is an adverse sample. |
