Taxes too high and salaries too big

The proposed tax hike for King Township is 5.94 per cent.

Did your wages increase by this amount of money last year?

Have our governments not seen the number of people put out of work in the manufacturing sector in this province, once the backbone of Ontario? Or the number of jobs going offshore?

The average working person just cannot afford these increases year after year. Many have not had an increase in pay for years, have no benefits, hold down more than one job just to pay their mortgage and put food on the table for their children. And then I see the article about the number of municipal employees that make more than $100,000 a year, have benefits, and receive annual increases. Is this fair?

According to King Township, they only had four employees making more than $100,000. York Region had 165 municipal employees making the list, plus 331 at the school board. Peel Region have 109, and more than 465 employees at local school boards in Peel made more than $100,000, some over $200,000. And yet parents have to fund extras for their children at school. Is there something wrong with this picture?

All of our governments in this province are out of control. These salaries and annual increases must be cut back. These people work no harder or longer hours than the average man or woman living in our communities. We are fast approaching the very rich and the very poor, no middle class.

What will life be like for your children and grandchildren if our factories close and we continue on this path of excessive spending ?
