If you Schomberg residents are wondering what all the commotion was about Saturday night in the village, it was the sound of triumph.

The Schomberg midget rep Red Wings, sponsored by Borsa Brothers Excavating returned home victorious shortly after 10 p.m., and quickly mounted the village's vintage fire truck for the traditional ride around the town.

The team had been in Waterford earlier in the evening, putting the finishing touches on the four-game sweep of the Wildcats. The final score Saturday was 6-2.

The Red Wings got the early jump on their foes, courtesy of a goal by Andrew Mitri, from Andrio Borsa. But the Wildcats, with their backs to the wall, had the score tied within a minute, then took the lead early in the second period.

The Wings let them enjoy the lead for about four minutes, and then they got serious.

Kyle Edwards restored the lead, with assistance from Cameron Sutherland, then Nicholas Weening bagged the winner a little more than two minutes later, with Sutherland helping out on that marker too. Adam Casciato added another marker less than a minute later, with help from Mitri and Weening.

Nick Weening almost had himself a short-handed goal in Thursday's third game of the championship series, but Waterford goalie Spencer Hockley was up to the challenge.
Schomberg spent most of the third period putting the icing on the victory cake. Kyle King notched a goal, with assists going to Mitri and Jeff Phillips, then Matthew Colalillo collected a final tally, with 8:56 showing on the clock. Jess Hunt was there to assist.

"We got behind 2-1," commented Coach Bob Hunt. "The boys came back and got it together. It was a team effort."

The team was impressive Thursday night, as they took a powerful grip on the series with a solid 8-4 doubling of the Cats.

Alex DiFebo led the attack that evening with three goals and an assist, Weening collected a pair of markers and singles were notched by Doug Cross, Hunt, and Edwards. Hunt had a pair of assists, as did Casciato, while Borsa, King, Sutherland, Andre Lessard and Craig MacRitchie. each earned one.

The team consisted of goalies Aaron Morning and Michael Southcott, and they backstopped for Adriano Borsa, Adam Casciato, Matthew Colalillo, Doug Cross, Kyle Edwards, Jake Harnett, Jess Hunt, Kyle King, Andre Lessard, Craig MacRitchie, Andrew Phillips, Cameron Sutherland, Nicholas Weening, Richard Weening and Alex DiFebo.
