Nobleton Cemetery fees increasing King Township council recently approved a proposed 15 per cent fee increase for the Nobleton Community Cemetery. The motion passed without discussion. The increase will make sure the cemetery can continue to operate without cost to taxpayers, stated the staff report. The increased fees will enable the undertaking of improvements, as well as finance rising maintenance and operating costs. In effect, the fee increase means it will cost $530 to acquire plots, which includes $320 in interment rights and $210 to go toward the cemetery's care and maintenance (CMF) trust fund. For cremation plots, costs will rise to $235, including $160 for interment rights and $75 toward the trust fund. The CMF fund is required under the Provincial Cemeteries Act, and a portion of each burial must be paid into it. King Township assumed ownership and management of the cemetery in 2000. The recommended new fee schedule will be forwarded to the Ministry of Consumer and Business Relations for approval. |
