All Saints' says thank you to guests, clergy, choir members, and worshippers, for the warmth of shared fellowship through community events in March: L'Arche Daybreak, Sacred Heart, St. Andrew's and King City United. Together, we enjoyed the World Day of Prayer, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, the sunrise service, and regular Easter worship. Next year we can expect snow piles to have disappeared by a more normal Easter date; April 12. Though our Easter is over, Jesus' death and resurrection in New Testament times coincided with the Jewish Passover. The Eastern or Greek Orthodox Easter, using the Julian calendar, is still yet to come, April 27, after the observation of Passover that extends from sundown April 19 to 27. If a March 23 Easter rearranged spring plans, it won't happen again until March 23, 2160, or even March 22, 2285. And now there are lots of exciting events coming up! This Saturday (March 29), remember to turn off your lights and power in York Region and Toronto (and globally) from 8 to 9 p.m. KAIROS hosts a candlelit meditation with Rev. Nicola Skinner at All Saints' from 7:45 until 9 p.m., for Earth Hour 2008. See www.kairoscanada.org As Christians, let's show responsibility for the earth God created. This coming Sunday (March 30), come early for the BCP Holy Communion at 8 a.m. or join us at 10:30 a.m. The monthly contemporary service is April 6, led by our own band. Register for 1:30 or 7 p.m. for the current 10-session Tuesday series with video excerpts on Philip Yancey's book What's So Amazing about Grace? Everyone is invited (enter by the east or office door), to discuss how to carry God's grace to the world. Young people, aged 12 and older, will hold their next Sunday breakfast April 6, at 9 a.m., for Hot Bagels/Hot Topics. Come out and make some new friends. April 12 is the great rummage sale. Now that spring (and spring cleaning) is really here, drop off your small furniture items, videos and treasures during office hours at the Atrium (parking lot) door, and come and help sort Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. until noon. Sorry, we are unable to accept mattresses and electronic equipment. Volunteers are asked to set aside time Tuesday to Friday, April 8 to 12, to organize tables and clothing in the church hall. Students can register to help all week, or during the sale, and earn community service hours. Call (905) 833-5432 or (905) 833-2654 for more information. |
