The six young people vying to be this year's Schomberg Idol continue to get ready for their first showcase.
It will be next Saturday (March 29) at 1:30 p.m. at Schomberg United Church. All are invited to attend, bring a friend and enjoy a great afternoon of music. There is no admission, but patrons are asked to bring a non-perishable item for the King Township Food Bank.
The contest is sponsored by Schomberg Agricultural Society and Music 21, Bolton.
There are six talented contestants ranging in age from 13 to 16. This year they have already performed at Main Street Christmas and for the Kitchen Breedon Manor residents.
They are now busy making the right song choices for their personal performances, along with group rehearsals to prepare themselves for the showcase.
The Schomberg Idol 2008 will have the opportunity to represent the Agricultural Society at several local fairs and events in the township throughout the coming year, as well as win some fantastic prizes donated by local businesses.

The 2008 Idol will be named May 24 at Schomberg Fair.
Today, we present the profiles of the last two Idol hopefuls, written by Wendy-Sue Bishop.
Emily Guhl
Emily Guhl is a talented, poised and accomplished Grade 8 student at Pope John Paul II School in Bolton.
She has performed in several of her school's play, including Mary Poppins (where she played Mrs. Banks), Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat and The Lion King. In a composite called A Night On Broadway, Emily sang Thinking of Me from The Phantom of the Opera.
The well-known and popular Arcadia Academy of Music, with Jordie Barnett at the helm, again has played a large role in encouraging, developing and perfecting Emily's unquestioned innate talent. Presently, she is working on her Level 5 Conservatory of Music in vocals, with Barnett.
Emily has competed in several Funfests and recitals through Arcadia, and has also participated in talent shows at The Caledon Senior Centre and in Orangeville. Already, at her young age, Emily is very aware of giving back. She recently took part in a local fund-raiser for the floodjeopardized St. Alban's Anglican Church in Nobleton. She performed alongside Laura Grossi, last year's Schomberg Idol, and the event took in $800 for the cause. She has also helped raise funds, through her musical talents, for the Peel Group For Children, for youngsters with multiple disorders.
Emily has a litany of varied interests and talents and is proving herself to be a viable multiple threat, with a real future in whatever path she chooses. She loves her drama classes as much as the wide myriad of books that she devours. As much as reading, she loves to write and would be very interested in journalism in the years to come. Saving The environment has become a very trendy and worthwhile passion for young people today, and Emily has totally embraced this. She has proven this through her involvement with the 4H Environment program, her involvement with the Tim Hortons Clean Up Days, along with planting trees and building bird houses.
Emily is a big country music fan, with SugarLand and Reba McIntyre being right at the top of her list. But she always forces herself to step out of the box and her comfort zone and to appreciate and participate in all genres of music.
Amy Rose Payne
Amy Rose is delightful young girl, living in Lisle for the past eight years, but actually very involved with the town of Alliston.
She is a Grade 7 student at the Holy Family Catholic School in Alliston and is very involved with the Catholic Church next door to the school.
She also has taken voice lessons for the last three years, under the tutelage of the very talented Anita Horodynsky, at the Modern Conservatory of Music, also in Alliston.
Amy Rose loves playing the guitar and even at her young age, has already become an accomplished composer.
The Groundswell Café in Alliston, has invited Amy Rose to participate in their Open Mike Nights, and she has also performed in several recitals at the Mill Pond Centre in Alliston.
When I asked Amy Rose what she would like to accomplish, she immediately flashed me a dazzling smile and without missing a beat, quipped, "I would like to make another CD!"
She has already had the privilege to record a CD with the Modern Conservatory of Music, including her own composition, Not Trying To Say!
Amy Rose likes to play guitar with her brother Dalton, as well as skiing with him at Snow Valley.
Amy Rose is proving herself to be a multi-faceted threat, as along with her musical talents, she has also studied many types of dance, including hip hop, ballet, tap and jazz.
But Amy Rose's true love is singing, performing and competing, whether it be with her choir at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Alliston or at her lucky Aunt's wedding this coming May.
I wish Amy Rose all the best in her future endeavours and as she vies for Schomberg Idol crown.
