All Saints' Anglican Church

At Easter, we observe the death and glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ, and reaffirm the meaning and purpose of life. All Saints' welcomes you to various King City events in which we share.

Good Friday, come to the joint 10:30 a.m. service, hosted this year at All Saints', with Rev. Bob Biggar of King City United Church as guest speaker.

Observe an ecumenical Easter Saturday Vigil (Mar. 22), at the L'Arche Daybreak Community in Richmond Hill, at 8 p.m. Share the joyful, transparent worship of the core members, in the heartwarming setting of Daybreak Chapel at 11339 Yonge St. (north of Elgin Mills, east side). Or, meet at All Saints' at 7:30 p.m., to carpool with others.

Rev. Chris Carter invites families and friends to the short Easter Sunday sunrise service at 7 a.m., at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 13190 Keele St. (west side), two blocks north of King Road. Gather early Easter Sunday to sing that Christ is risen, maybe even outside, and experience with the King City community the wonder and the joy of the original Resurrection morning. Enjoy a continental breakfast, or leave in time to join the 8 a.m. chapel service at All Saints'.

Easter Sunday, All Saints' presents a choral celebration of the Resurrection at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Nicola Skinner warmly welcomes you, especially if you haven't felt free to return to church for some time. Holy Communion is open to all baptized Christians. Stay to introduce yourself, and meet new friends over refreshments.

Next Tuesday, an exciting, new 10-week video series starts in the Fellowship Room, using Philip Yancey's book What's So Amazing about Grace? Order your book in advance from a bookseller. Local residents are cordially invited to attend (enter by the east or office door), to discuss how we can share grace with others, in our lives today.

How concerned are you about our carbon footprint, as lights are dimmed around the world for Turn Off the Lights? KAIROS, a cooperative group, will host a candlelit meditation at All Saints, from 7:45 to 9 p.m., for Earth Hour March 29. See www.earthhour.org, or www.kairoscanada.org

Our famous rummage sale is coming April 12, so drop off items during office hours. Come and help sort Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until noon.

All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is a few doors south of King Road. The church office is open Tuesday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you know of a need, or would like Communion taken to someone, contact Rev. Skinner at (905) 833-5432, or e-mail allsaints@eol.ca. Visit the Web site at www.allsaintskingcity.com.

News from the Pews

This is Holy Week. Let us all take a few deep breaths and remember what Easter is all about.

The Good Friday (March 21) service will be at All Saints' Anglican Church at 10:30 a.m.

The Easter Sunday (March 23) Sunrise service will be at 7 a.m. at St Andrews Presbyterian Church. That will be followed by the Easter Communion service at King City United at 10 a.m. Our Bells will be playing both the bells and the chimes, thanks to Dorothy Gillies' leadership. Come and enjoy. This really is wonderful "music to our ears."

Our UCW meeting is today (March 19) at 1:30 pm in the parlour. The theme will be There is always a burst of Sunshine. We welcome new members. Come and look us over.

Our next confirmation class will be March 30, after service in the parlour at 11:15 a.m.

Don't forget the blooddonor clinic March 31, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Our Pastor Bob would love to know your favourite hymns. Make a list for him; up to a dozen. He will try to include them in the next few months.

Our Irish dinner Friday night was an overflow success. Thanks to all of you for supporting it.

The entertainment was superb. The iulean is indeed a unique instrument. We hope to have him back next year. The dancers, in their authentic Irish costumes, gave us a great ending to a special evening.

Special thanks to the catering committee and all the ladies who helped in the kitchen. Extra Special thanks to the Youth Group who served dessert then dived into doing dishes. They couldn't believe there were so many dishes in the whole world. Then they turned around and served a pancake breakfast Sunday morning, and did all those dishes before service. Way to go, Youth Group!

It was a unique moment - World Day of Prayer, in the Anglican church, with a United church person selling a ticket to a Presbyterian. That's togetherness.

May Easter weekend be a wonderful time of family and peace for you.

Don't forget to attend the church of your choice.

Any information you would like included in our local papers, please direct it to our church office no later than noon Friday at (905) 833-5181.

For prayers or a ride, please call our church office.
