Every dog has its day, even in Blackhorse Theatre's next show

The Blackhorse Village Players next production, Sylvia by A.R. Gurney, is set to open March 26.

This doggone flea-bitten comedy centers on an unusual love-triangle between a husband and wife, and man's best friend.

After 22 years of parenting in the suburbs, Greg (played by Rod Cook of Caledon) and Kate (Diana Crabtree of Alliston) find themselves as empty-nesters and move to Manhattan. Greg's career as a financial trader is winding down, while Kate's career, as a public school English teacher, is beginning to offer her more opportunities.

The newly empty-nesting couple's lives take a turn when Greg brings home a stray dog he found (or has the dog found him?). Bearing only the name Sylvia on her collar, the street-smart mixture of Lab and poodle becomes a major bone of contention between husband and wife. Sylvia (played by Kierston Drier of Caledon) offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for Greg's affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. This bazaar love-triangle puts the couple's marriage in serious jeopardy until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives.

Director Lynn Kehrli of Alliston pilots this talented cast, that includes Brian and Ann Neale of Tottenham in supporting roles.

Performance dates are March 26, 28, 29, 30, April 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12.

Tickets are $17 each. For advance seating, call the Box Office at (905) 880-5002.

The Blackhorse Theatre is at 17272 Mount Wolfe Rd. at the corner of Highway 9 in Caledon.
