Put generator where it belongs My family grows asparagus for sale on our acreage south of the Holland Marsh. We are proud of its quality - it has never been sprayed with chemicals. Life was pretty good on our farm, but now I am mad as heck about the unfolding plan for a gasfired generating plant. Who will want my asparagus grown next door to three tall smoke stacks? The people of Markham and Aurora believed that upgrading their transmission lines would harm their health and property values. Their politicians agreed and stopped the needed line improvements. The people of Newmarket believed that a gas-fired generator would harm their health and property values. Their politicians agreed and cancelled plans for the needed generator. The people and politicians of Markham, Aurora and Newmarket have spoken - electrical infrastructure is "bad news" for the people living nearby.
I trust our government is prepared to fully compensate property owners in northern King Township for the huge losses in our property values. However, it would be a lot simpler to place the generator in an industrial area where it belongs. We just want fresh air and fresh asparagus, not factory smoke stacks. |
