It was a day to get nobody's goat
Editorial

Officials of the Schomberg Agricultural Society must have felt a deep sense of frustration when they saw the weather conditions that were in place to greet their annual Farm Tour Saturday.

Anyone who was on the roads Saturday knows it was a good day to stay off the roads.

Yet this fourth annual tour attracted a respectable crowd, despite the adverse conditions.

Each of the three stops on the tour were in the Town of New Tecumseth, and these local operations put their goats and sheep on display, to the delight of many. Organizers report there were 139 people who took the tour; pretty impressive, under the circumstances.

True, many of those on the tour were people who can always be relied upon to support the agricultural society and its endeavours. But there were others out too. Families with young children. These kids have certainly heard of little lambs, and perhaps have seen pictures of them. And thy would have heard of billy goats too. But Saturday provided them the opportunity to see them in the flesh, to pet them, to see them interact with their mothers and to learn about their importance to the agricultural industry, particularly the local agricultural industry.

And this was all on a day when many people would have taken the prudent course of staying home.

For the record, our compliments must go out to Dan and Karen Baker, and the family of Karlyn, Morgan and Zackery of Bakerridge Farm; Norm and Dianne King and family Cooper and Kyle of Kingsview Farm; and Karl and Jan Stewart of Egalacres Farm.

But hats must be tipped to those or pitched in to organize the tour. And especially, we compliment those who braved the elements to actually go on it.

If nothing else, this tour has to tell a lot of people they are doing a lot of things right.
