Preservers of local history honoured

King Township resident Helen Poulis was presented with Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement Thursday at Queen's Park. The presentation was made by Lincoln Alexander, chairman of the Ontario Heritage Trust and Lt.-Gov. David Onley.
Mayor Margaret Black recently made a presentation to Helen Poulis, of the King Township Historical Society, which was followed by a more formal presentation at Queen's Park.

Lt.-Gov. David Onley and former Lt.-Gov. Lincoln Alexander, chairman of the Ontario Heritage Trust presented her with a framed certificate and special achievement pin at Queen's Park, in recognition of her receiving the Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Lifetime Achievement.

As well, the mayor presented Certificates of Achievement to Elaine Robertson, in the built heritage category, and Virginia Atkins, in the cultural heritage category as part of the 2007 Heritage Community Recognition Program.

In his letter to the mayor, Alexander pointed out how volunteers across the province work hard to keep heritage alive and meaningful. He added how pleased the Ontario Heritage Trust is to help communities recognize and show appreciation for those volunteers.

"I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Heritage Trust, to congratulate Virginia Atkins, Elaine Robertson and Helen Poulis for their significant contribution to the preservation of Ontario's heritage and to improving our quality of life," he wrote.

"They are an inspiration to us all."
