Karl Davis president of merged Chamber
By Bill Rea

The merging of two Chambers of Commerce into one is progressing.

The joint board of directors got together last Monday, and named Karl Davis of Nobleton Farm Service as presidents of the new King Chamber of Commerce.

Davis said that appointment will still have to be ratified by the Chamber membership when it meets. No date has been set for that yet.

Other appointments include Janesse McPhillips, vice-president; Mike Coulter, treasurer; and Audrey D'Souza-Moraes, secretary. The other board members include Amanda Batchelor, Jane Cameron, Tom Dobson, Gerry Duffy, Patty Fleetwood, Ron Ivany, Henry Verbruggen and Gary Vogan.

In a letter to the membership last week, Davis reported Jane Binions has accepted the position as administrator.

Talk of merging the King Township Chamber with the Nobleton Schomberg District Chamber started more than a year ago. The King Township Chamber voted unanimously last February to have a committee set up to work toward that end. The Nobleton Schomberg District Chamber voted overwhelmingly in November in favour of the merger.

Representatives of the two Chambers formally signed the deal last month

Davis said specific plans for the new Chamber have not been drawn up yet. A number of committees have been set up: Economic Development; Marketing and Outreach; Bylaws and Constitution; Community Events; and Sustainability (Green). He said these committees will be drawing up ideas, and they should be reporting in the next three or four weeks.

Work on the merger has been going "absolutely great," Davis declared. "We've got some very keen workers."
