Have Oyster stew with the King City Lions Saturday night All Saints' Anglican Church Submitted by Claire Alexander Easter Sunday is very early this year, the first Sunday after the 14th day of the lunar month (the nominal full moon) that falls on or after March 21, which in turn is the usual date of the vernal equinox, on our Gregorian calendar. Now we begin the 40 days (plus Sundays) leading up to Easter, with lots of things on the calendar. All Saints' invites you to come and join the early risers this Sunday (Feb. 10) at 8 a.m. for a quiet service of Holy Communion in the Chapel. Or, meet at 10:30 a.m. in the Church for our family service, with Sunday school and nursery provided, and coffee hour following. Sadness over the flooding of our sister congregation of St. Alban's, Nobleton, has touched all the members of All Saints', and we are praying for Fr. Suren Nathan and the Nobleton congregation, as they face difficult times. The Lenten Church History sessions for Dummies and Buffs begin this Tuesday (Feb. 12) at 7 p.m. Rev. Canon Jerry Loweth will tell us about St. Irenaeus and Gnosticism (second century) and some of the controversies that the church is still discussing today, and encourage our feedback. He also hopes to cover seventh century Celtic Christianity with St. Aidan of Iona - a very practical kind of spirituality that many are re-embracing. A week Tuesday (Feb. 19), we plan to cover both Thomas Cranmer's production of the Book of Common Prayer in 1549, and the beginnings of Methodism in England, under John Wesley. All are welcome to join us. In case of weather cancellations, please call the church at (905) 833-5432 for a recorded message. Now is the time to begin to clear out all your old treasures for the white elephant table at the incomparable All Saints' Rummage Sale. Keep tuned for more information about the sale, which will be April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are going on holiday, keep in touch with updates on King's Corners at www.kingsentinel. com The choir warmly encourages new members. Note that during the winter, choir practices change to Sundays, before and after the 10:30 a.m. service. New members interested in Easter music are invited to check us out. Please put on your calendar that we welcome Rev. Bob Biggar of King City United to speak at the Good Friday community service, being held this year at All Saints' March 21. All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is a few doors south of King Road. The church office is open Tuesday to Friday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you know of a need, or have a family member in hospital, contact Rev. Nicola Skinner at (905) 833-5432, e-mail to allsaints@ eol.ca or visit the Web site at www.allsaintskingcity. com King City United Church There's not always a thaw in January, nor do all springlike days come in January. As the old-fashion almanac would put it, "About this time, expect several warm days." Even if the "about this time" was at the end of February, the country people would still regard it as our "January thaw, only a little later this year." Wonder what the almanac would say about this January? How could anyone predict the roller-coaster ride? Let's hope February can settle down. There was a good turnout for the blood-donor clinic last week. There were 62 pints of blood collected. Thanks to all who donated the "gift of life." The Bring a Friend to church luncheon has been postponed due to conflicting dates. It's not too early to mark your calendars for June 7 for the Amazing Race. Both adults and children had an "amazing" time last year. Plan to participate. For more information, call Serena Edmunds at (905) 833-2707. This Sunday, Rev. Biggar's sermon will be Lives at Risk, based on Matthew 4: 1-11. Join us to hear his words at 10 a.m. Sunday school and nursery care are provided. If you wish prayers or a ride, the church is at 50 Elizabeth Grove, and can be reached at (905) 833-5181. Also check out the Web site at www.kcuc.ca Life holds so many blessings, both large and small, we can't begin to count them all. Seniors' euchre There was a tie for the top player among the ladies at the Jan. 25 euchre evening at King City Seniors' Centre. Rena Gordon and Diane Simmonds both had 75 points, followed by Milla Eigelshoven (72) and Joyce Glass (49). Allan O'Brien led the way for the men (81), followed by Chuck Hansford (76) and Charlie Zammit (56). Draw winners were Gord Fawcett, Betty Coles and Rena Gordon. The next euchre evening will be Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome. Lions Oyster Pasta Dinner The King City Lions will be holding their annual Oyster Stew and Pasta Dinner this Saturday (Feb. 9) at the local arena. It will run from 4:30 until 8 p.m. The cost will be $15 per person. St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Submitted by Kathy Patterson Drum roll please - This Sunday, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, a special congregational meeting will be held to present and launch our new vision for St. Andrew's. A light lunch will be provided and all are encouraged to attend. February Family Fun Night is Feb. 16, starting with a pizza supper at 5:30 p.m. Let the church know if you plan to attend. Mark your calendars for the Annual General Meeting Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Prayer and Praise meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the pastor's study to which all are invited. It's a privilege and a joy to pray, knowing that our Father hears and cares. Hope to see you soon at our church. Sunday school and nursery care are provided during the worship service.
