And he replied, 'Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light, And safer to you than a known way!'" In 1908, Minnie Louise Haskins published The Desert, at Warmley House, eastern Bristol, from which comes this opening to her poem God Knows. Read by King George VI to encourage his Second World War listeners at his first Christmas broadcast in 1939, and read again at the Queen Mother's funeral in 2002, it roots us afresh in 2008, with the Pakistan crisis. Set to music forty years ago, The Gate of the Year appeared in 2004 in an arrangement by Eleanor Daley for female voices, commissioned by the Alliance World Festival. Daley's name weaves together memories of premiering one of her earlier compositions, conducted by Norma Brubacher and All Saints' enhanced choir. Currently, we invite you to worship at 10:30 a.m. with the choir, led by Michael Leach at the organ. Or join early risers Sundays at 8 a.m. in the Chapel. Holy Communion is open to all who are baptized, and others may choose to come forward for a prayer of blessing. Participate in a friendly coffee hour afterward. Sunday School and nursery are provided at 10:30 a.m. This Sunday (Jan. 13) enjoy the men's monthly breakfast at 9:15 a.m. between the services, with sausages and eggs - and even crepes flipped by our own minister Nicola. The movie Amazing Grace, about Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery, is coming Jan. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Do join us in the Fellowship Room. Enter by the office door at the east end of the church. If there is a weather warning, call the church to hear of any cancellation at (905) 833-5432. Ash Wednesday falls Feb. 6 this year, with an early Easter Sunday, March 23. Mark your calendars for Tuesday evening Lenten events Feb. 12, 19 and 26. Rev. Jerry Loweth will lead us in discussion on medieval church history, the Reformation, and the Gnostics. This will be an interesting series for all history buffs. All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is a few doors south of King Road.
