Name a park after Lamaze

It was nice to read about the accomplishments of Eric Lamaze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics this past summer.

He is truly a great competitor and I feel we owe him a little more than a nice write-up in the local papers whenever he wins another honor for Canada, or Ontario, or King Township, whatever.

How about naming a park after him? A park like the ittsy bitsy park the Township has ordered built in the middle of the new sub-division in Schomberg. It's not nearly large enough to say, "swing a cat in," and won't be adequate for all the new families who will be moving in come next year, but it's better than no park at all.

How about Mayor Black and King Township altering the official plan to mandate a larger park, forcing the builder to give the two homes on either side of the proposed park or parkette, back to the Township to make a reasonably-sized park. The Eric Lamaze Park would be a great tribute to honor Eric for his accomplishments.

Better still, let's give the builder a chance to donate the two homes or raise funds and buy them at cost and just forget to have them built. The children deserve a bigger park than what they plan to build.

I can think of two or three more financing ideas, but let's let others in the township think up a way to honor a Schomberg hometown citizen like Eric Lamaze.
