King City Library will be haunted this week for the little folks

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church

Submitted by

Kathy Patterson

St. Andrew's was pleased to welcome back Shawn Kennedy, chaplain of Woodbine Racetrack, to our pulpit while Pastor Chris Carter and several young dads were on a special weekend trip.

We heard about the new City of Refuge at Woodbine and were encouraged to look at our church in King City as a place of refuge. Won't you come for a visit and see for yourself? How can St. Andrew's be that place of refuge for you?

Back to Basics for the teens will be held Sunday at 6 p.m. in the church lounge.

Haunted House this week

at King City Library

The King City branch of the King Township Public Library is running a preschool haunted house. The haunting hours are daily until Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Children and their families are encouraged to wear costumes. Although it is targeted for a younger audience, all ages are welcome.

King City United Church

Another week gone and it's feeling more like winter coming soon. November is the one month I could eliminate . . . but then we wouldn't have The Dinner.

Our thoughts of sympathy go to Nancy Stenson, our secretary, and her family, on the loss of her father recently. Our thoughts and prayers also for the family of Marion Curran. She was laid to rest last Thursday after a wonderful farewell service in King City United Church. What a warm feeling one gets when around the Curran family. Some of them shared their memories of her and their growing up years with us. What a role model she was! They will all miss their mom and Grambie for her singing and her love of life.

The ladies of KCUC had a busy week. After starting at 9 a.m. Thursday to do lunch for the Curran family and friends, numbering about 200, it was back to the kitchen Friday morning to make the pastry for the apple pie-making bee. Back again Saturday morning to peel, roll, fill, top, crimp, bag, label, etc. About 160 pies ended up going along the assembly line. Thanks to all who had a spot on the line and all who bought them. If you didn't get yours, get your order in early for next year.

Come and join us this Sunday (Nov. 2) 10 a.m. to hear a special speaker. Peter Love, son of Betty and the late Gage Love, will discuss what conservation is and will mean to our children and grandchildren. He has travelled throughout Ontario, Canada, and the world and is very well known and respected in his field.

Check out our chapel. Thanks to Marilyn Hubbard for cleaning it out and painting it. Looks great.

Seniors' euchre

The top player for the ladies at the Oct. 17 euchre evening at King City Seniors' Centre was Joyce Glass (70 points), followed by Diane Simmonds (64) and Rena Gordon (29). Leading things for the men was Chuck Hansford (63), followed by Charlie Zammit (55) and Alan O'Brien (42).

The draw winners were Milla Eigelshoven, Karen Fawcett and Gord Fawcett.

The seniors will be taking this Friday off for Halloween. The next euchre evening will be Nov. 14, starting at 7 p.m. Refreshment will be served and all are welcome.

Remember to change your clocks Saturday night. We're on the brink of November - though King City experienced an icy introduction last week - and hoping to get an extra hour of sleep this weekend.

Halloween Friday night we welcome children and youth in costume, after trick or treating, to enjoy pizza and a movie at 8:30 p.m. - it may be a late night - but they can catch up later when we change from Daylight time.

This Sunday (Nov. 2), at 10:30 a.m., Sunday school children will introduce us to some of these forerunners.

Kids aged 12 to 16 gather at 9 a.m., meeting between the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services for a class leading to Confirmation Dec. 7, with Bishop George Elliott. Adults may join Tuesday night's lively discussions, from 7 to 9, and also request Confirmation (and baptism), if desired.
