ORTA pitches in on projects in King
      The Oak Ridges Trail Association (ORTA) carried out two projects in King Township last week. Pictured here are David Beilhartz (crew leader), 21, Laura Howden, 17, Eric Shoesmith, 17, Kim Utez, 17, Ben Peterkin, 16, and volunteer Ed Millar. This is one of the projects they completed July 31, a footbridge on the MaryLake property near King City.

York Regional Police remember the fallen with a moment of silence
      York Regional Police members observed a moment of silence Saturday at 11 a.m. in memory of Detective Constable Robert Plunkett who was killed in the line of duty one year ago. In the early hours of Aug. 2, 2007, Constable Plunkett was working undercover with his surveillance team in Markham, investigating a large number of thefts of airbags from vehicles in York.

      More than 1,900 tickets were issued recently in a joint crack-down of York Regional police and their counterparts in Toronto. Police, over three days, targeted three heavy commuter routes, including Weston Road, from Highway 9 to Lawrence Avenue in Toronto, looking for aggressive drivers in both jurisdictions.

Stephanie Tait and Matt Hill set out from Vancouver May 4, running the equivalent of a marathon per day.
