Major atom reps celebrate successful weekend

The NobleKing major atom A rep Knights are enjoying the success of a winning weekend, having won three recent regular season games.

The Knights battled East Gwillimbury Nov. 23, winning 2-0. NobleKing had goals from Lucas Brockie and Christopher Frenette, and Mitchell Merrilees was awesome between the pipes. The team also received 100 per cent contribution from both Connor Brunt and Luke DeNicola. This was definitely an important win for the team, and it gave the players a boost of confidence.

Nov. 24 saw the Knights play Markham, winning 5-2. This was a very competitive and hard-hitting game, and the team achieved more than 40 shots on net - a season game record. Aaron Heffernan and Frenette scored two goals each, and Lucas Stanghieri got a single. Great defensive efforts came from Jack Payne, Lucas Stanghieri, Hayden Cummings and Kai Olguin. Goaltender Mitchell Merrilees was awesome in net, making 23 saves.

To finish off the weekend schedule, the Knights played Beeton and started off strong leading 3-0 after the first period. The team continued to turn it up, eventually winning 6-3. Frenette led the way with two goals, while Antonio Ficociello, Heffernan, Daniel MacGregor and Stanghieri posted one apiece. Marcus Beretta collected three assists, with singles going to Matthew Unterlander, Payne and Lucas Brockie. Mitchell Merrilees was solid again in net, keeping the Knights alive with 29 saves.

The team will be leaving for Niagara Falls shortly, participating in the Greater Fort Erie Minor Hockey Association Tournament Dec. 7, 8 and 9.
