Council plans to hold 22 meetings in 2008 Irish luck isn't going to keep King councillors from working St. Patrick's Day. Council recently approved its meeting schedule for 2008, with a St. Patrick's Day session on the list. The councillors are scheduled to get together 22 times in the next year, but that doesn't include working sessions, budget deliberations or other meetings that might be called to deal with specific issues. Council generally meets two Monday's per month, except for July and August, when there is normally one meeting. Meetings start at 6 p.m., and normally include committee of the whole segments, during which most of the staff reports are dealt with. The meetings for '08 are planned for Jan. 14 and 28, Feb. 11 and 25, March 17 and 31, April 14 and 28, May 12 and 26, June 9 and 23, July 7, Aug. 18, Sept. 8 and 22, Oct. 6 and 20, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 1 and 15. Councillor Jane Underhill was concerned that there wouldn't be enough meetings, especially in the summer, considering the number of extra meetings that have been held. Township Clerk Chris Somerville said those extra meetings have nothing to do with the lack of meetings in the summer. It was just a case of developments coming on at the same time. Councillor Linda Pabst didn't see the need for more meetings, commenting municipal staff needs time for vacations and to get caught up on other things. |
