A mainly amazing Christmas on the street
By L.J. Phillips KCSS student

905-729-Schomberg's Main Street Christmas Saturday was an event worth attending.

Once again, I had the privilege of participating in this wonderful and unique experience that sets Schomberg apart from other towns. Main Street Christmas not only includes a Santa Claus Parade and parade of lights, but many other amusing and traditional displays and activities for children and adults alike.

The streets became crowded, full of holiday spirit, full of people who came from near and far to take part in Schomberg's annual Main Street Christmas. The fun-filled and very chilly evening kicked off with the 4 p.m. Santa Claus Parade. For the first time ever, the parade went north on Main Street. This change had some people scratching their heads at first, but after seeing that it was the same great parade, filled with homemade floats, Christmas carols, marching bands, a girl on a horse (yours truly), and a couple of Santa's reindeer, everyone was convinced it was just as good as ever.

After the parade, there were a lot of things to do on the street to keep people busy until the parade of lights at 8. There were children's storytellers, a music stage set up by Arcadia Academy of Music, a craft show in the community hall, tractordrawn

hay rides, and a

whose comedy and juggling acts were five-star entertainment. Also present were the Smudge Fundaes, a kids' singing group, and various other artists and musicians performing their talents for the crowd.

For dinner, there was a food booth set up by the Lion's club, which featured delicious back bacon on a bun, and hot chocolate to warm up the crowds, who were huddled around the many street bonfires. For dessert, kettle corn was a more than perfect filler to snack on during the alwaysspectacular parade of lights.

Despite the cold air and frosty temperature, lots of people came out to enjoy themselves in a good, oldfashioned, hometown way. Numerous adults and children lined the streets and watched in awe at the tractors and farm machinery, big and small, ornamented marvelously with lights and decorations. The parade of lights was led by two adorable miniature ponies pulling lit up little carts; followed by farmers and families who put much time and effort into making their display the best.

I am already looking forward to next year's Main Street Christmas!
