Church

All Saints' congregation and Rev. Nicola Skinner extend grateful thanks to everyone in the community for our memorable 150th anniversary year. After the wonderful fall weather, we invite you now, as colder weather moves in, to enjoy the warmth of Advent and Christmas events.

We welcome you to our first Sunday in Advent, with a service remembering World AIDS Day Dec. 2. A short video will be shown at the 10:30 a.m. service, in lieu of the sermon, and a longer Stephen Lewis video over lunch. Bring something to add to the potluck lunch, or just drop in. Early birds meet for Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. in the Chapel.

Dec. 4 at 7 p.m., our series of Tuesday Night at the Movies meets in the Fellowship Room to watch Amazing Grace: the story of William Wilberforce and the abolition of slavery in Britain.

Wednesday mornings, join community friends, as we meet for prayer from 9 to 9:50 a.m. Drop off your prayer requests during office hours.

Food Bank donations of powdered milk this week will help replenish our supplies.

Men, mark on your calendars for the following Sunday (Dec. 9). The great monthly men's breakfast meets at 9:15 a.m., between the services. It's free. All men are welcome.

The choir welcomes all to their annual evening of Advent Lessons and Carols Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 22, join local Christians at 6:30 p.m. for our second annual ecumenical Carol Service outside King City United Church. Enjoy the brass quintet and hot chocolate as we sing our favourite carols. Bring the family and dress for the weather. Flashlights would be useful.

We in the land of Canada thank God for our blessings. If you can't find suitable Christmas gifts for those who have everything, how about helping to send a "gift in their name" to a developing country? Add your name to the church list to help provide a pair of milking goats overseas. Or, encourage your children "to give away" their own gift, or earn another, and send a soccer ball or mosquito net to another child.

Mark down December dates: Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) - Family service and pageant at 5:30 p.m., and traditional service at 10:30 p.m. Christmas Day, gather in the Chapel at 10 a.m.

All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City is a few doors south of King Road. Office hours are Tuesday to Friday, from 10 to 2. If you know of a need, contact Rev. Skinner at (905) 833-5432, or e-mail allsaints@eol.ca. www.allsaintskingcity. com

Our doors are wide open to the surrounding community and a warm welcome is extended to all from Rev. Bob Biggar and parishioners at King City United Church.

If you are new to the community, King City United Church is one block south of King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. Sunday morning services, including the children, start at 10 a.m.

The children participate in the early part of the morning services and then go off to Sunday school with their teachers to learn the Bible in the children's understanding. And at this time, near Christmas, the story of the baby Jesus is wondrous for all the children, the young and the not so young. At any age, this time of the year, is always the loveliest event ever to happen. Fellowship and refreshments follow the morning services for all.

Next week's reflection is to be A New Age Dawning, based on Isaiah 2:1-5. All are invited to gather in the parlour after worship to discuss this further.

The Men's Dinner this weekend was a total sell out days before the event. The roast beef dinner was delicious and the evening of song put on by the men was marvellous. For next year's dinner tickets, it would be wise to make sure you purchase them early.

The Season of Advent begins Dec. 2, with a Holy Communion, along with the Contemporary Service. The Contemporary Service is made up of special, holy music. The professional band, which does all the music, is a wonder to listen to and to sing along with the music. You will exit the church, when the service is over you will leave with a smile on your face and

warmth in your heart.

Lunch with Santa for the

young and young at heart will be Dec. 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Santa is to arrive at 12.30. Children are to be able to decorate either a gingerbread man or large cookie. Admission will be $6.50 for adults and $20 for families. Tickets are available from the office or any UCW member. Two gingerbread houses are to be auctioned off.

A Family Fun Night is to be held Dec. 8. There is to be a potluck dessert starting 6.30 p.m., followed by viewing of The Nativity Movie on the big screen in the gym. Everyone is welcome.

The Youth Group is inviting all seniors to a Christmas Dinner and Carolling Dec. 15, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the church. If you know of someone outside our church who would like to join them, please take an invitation for them also. For more information, please call Serena Edmunds at (905) 833-2707. Transportation can be arranged if requested. RSVP by Dec. 10.

Discover the Meaning of Sharing. It is Christmas Angel time once again, as in the past. Christmas Angels have done a terrific job of sharing their abundance. The family wish lists are trickling in, with more on the way. Anyone interested in either sponsoring a family or making a donation, please sign up on the sheet at the front door, or contact Margaret Swanson at (905) 737-9887, or mswanson@look.ca

We are looking for someone to submit information to the local papers from Jan. 1 to March 31. It is not difficult to prepare the entries and it is interesting. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Shirley Burton at (9050 787- 1591, or e-mail to sbburton1@ aol.com
