It seems this is a busy time for everyone, including Members of Parliament, and Lui Temelkovski is no exception.
Oak Ridges - Markham's MP updated people on what he's been up to lately when he addressed members of the King Township and the Nobleton Schomberg and District Chambers of Commerce Thursday, as various local businesses marked milestone anniversaries.
He also had some news to announce, as earlier that day he had been elected vice-chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health.
The committee is responsible for overseeing the management and operation of Health Canada, as well as five agencies that report to Parliament through the Health Minister.
"I am very excited to have this opportunity to contribute to an area of policy Canadians feel so passionately about," he remarked. "Health care is close to all our hearts as as Canadians and there is a lot of work to be done."
He also hinted there are some issues he's hoping will come before the committee.
"I have met with people the discuss diabetes, seniors' health, children's health and many other issues that impact health care in this country," he commented. "I look forward to working with my colleagues on whatever health issue comes before us in committee."
As well, Temelkovski told the Chamber members he also sits on the committee dealing with international trade, adding both bodies had met earlier that day, before he flew from Ottawa to be on hand at the meeting, which was held at the Montessori Country School in Nobleton.
He told the audience the demands on his time as an MP are more than he bargained for. "There's never a dull moment," he remarked, adding the hardest part has been the time he's had to spend away from his family.
"There is definitely a price to be paid when you're elected into public life," he observed.
But he added he also wants to contribute to Canada, which is why he does it.
