Cynthia Johnston

Memorial Fund

Submitted by Neighbours in Pottageville

It is hard to believe that it has been a year since the death of Cynthia Johnston.

In that year's time, many of you, wishing to express your condolences, contributed to her memorial fund. It grew more than any of us could have imagined, but then she was a very special young woman. So much has been done with your contributions since then.

She loved music and she hoped to teach, so a piano keyboard and bench were purchased in her memory, engraved with her name and donated to Kettleby Public School; a Cynthia Johnston student award was established for a student demonstrating a love of life and learning; and in the school yard, an oak tree was planted and a large rock was placed beside it for sitting in its eventual shade. Funds flowed in from neighbours, from York Pines United Church and from patrons of Schomberg's Junction Restaurant.

We believe that Cynthia would have been pleased and we know that she would have wanted us to thank you all for your kind thoughts and generous contributions.

Thanks again.
