St. Andrew's will again be selling poinsettias for the christmas season

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in King City is gearing up for a number of events, and we hope you can participate.

Busy Moms will have their Bible study morning at the church tomorrow (Thursday). Call Miriam at (905) 833-1475.

Autumn Escape Opportunity for the Ladies is taking place in Pottageville. Contact Bonnie at (905) 833-5256.

The Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes must be placed in the narthex for pickup by this Sunday (Nov. 4).

Next Saturday (Nov. 10) is very exciting. Ignite the Light, a DVD series designed to inform and encourage adults to share our faith, is starting at 10 a.m. in the church lounge.

Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m., the Marion Singers, a well-respected choral group, will present a beautiful concert with a Remembrance Day theme. For tickets, contact Kathy at (905) 833-0391 or Betty at (905) 833-5380. Tickets cost $10 each, with children 12 years of age and younger getting in for free.

The choir is busy practising for the Christmas Cantata (Dec. 16). If you would like to sing with us, please contact Marlene through the church office soon.

Speaking of Christmas, our Poinsettia Sale is back again and so is Christmas in the Country, Nov. 24. We'll keep you posted.

Join us for worship at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday. Sunday school and nursery care are lovingly provided.

King City United Church

A warm welcome is extended to the surrounding community from King City United Church, proclaiming the good news of God's love, through Jesus Christ.

If anyone is new to the community, King City United is one block south of King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. Sunday morning services, including the children, start at 10 a.m.

The children participate in the early part of the morning services and then go to Sunday school with their teachers to learn about the Bible in the children's way. Fellowship and refreshments follow the morning services for all.

Next week's reflection is to be Mutual Respect, based on Matthew 7:1-5. All are invited to gather in the parlour after worship to discuss the further.

Apple days is this Friday and Saturday (Nov. 2 and 3). The the price of the apple pies is $8.50.

Worship Committee Members are asked to note note the meeting scheduled for Nov. 14 has been moved ahead one week to Nov. 7.

The King Township Food Bank is in need of the following items. Nov. 4 - Christmas items, (cookies, treats, etc.); Nov. 11 - Christmas items; Nov. 18- oatmeal; Nov. 25 - side dishes, (potato, pasta and rice); Dec. 2 - powered milk. The last distribution day before Christmas is to be Nov. 24. Christmas items are requested early to make sure they get to our patrons in time for the holidays. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Come and celebrate with Rena Gordon on the occasion of her 90th birthday, to be held at King City United Church, Nov. 17, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. No gifts please, but a donation for the food bank would be appreciated. For more information, call Debbie Howe at (905) 833- 6389.

There is to be an "everything sale" Nov. 10, starting at 9 a.m. If you have an "everything" around the house and would like to donate to the sale, it will be very much appreciated. The sale is to support the rebuilding of the school that was destroyed by fire at Pikangikium, Ojibew, 100 kilometres north of Red Lake. There are 860 students with no school to attend. They are affiliated with the United Church and King City United Church will work hard to help and support these children. There is to be no pricing on the "everything," but a donation from each sale will be very much appreciated. For further information call Sheryl Sinka at (905) 833- 6233.

The Seniors Overtimers group presents a Tropical Paradise Mystery Tour. Join us Nov. 13 at 8:45 a.m. as we depart from the church on a deluxe highway coach for a day of mystery. The cost is $55 and it includes a home cooked dinner at Betty's Restaurant in Niagara Falls. We will return to the church at 6 p.m. For tickets, please contact Ruth at (905) 833- 1270.

Bus trip to Casino Rama

A senior bus trip to Casino Rama is planned for Nov. 17.

The cost is $30, and that includes a Chinese or Canadian buffet dinner, and round-trip bus ride. it will leave Highway 400 and King Road at 2:30 p.m., returning from Rama at 10 p.m. For tickets, call (905) 833-2014.

This event is in support of the NobleKing major novice hockey.

Antique Road Show

at Seniors' Centre

Have you ever wondered what that antique or heirloom in your home is really worth? Well, here's your chance to find out.

The King City Seniors' Centre will be hosting a special Antique Evaluation Day Nov. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. Bring in any antique and have a professional appraiser give you an opinion on its value. The cost is $5 per item and everyone is invited.

Seniors' New Year's

Eve party

A Wine and Champagne New Year's Party is being planned for King City Seniors Centre members, to be held Dec. 31 at the Centre from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Come on out, kick up your heels and have a memorable celebration with friends as you welcome 2008.

All Saints' Anglican Church

Come to celebrate our joyful 150th anniversary this Sunday (Nov. 4), with Bishop George Elliott and Rev. Nicola Skinner at the 10:30 a.m. Eucharist, followed by refreshments.

Note that there will be no 8 a.m. service in the Chapel Sunday, but remember to put your clocks back.

Bishop George will pray with the children for God's blessing on the Christmas shoeboxes as they go on their way to thrill each child's heart in needy places. If you wish to help us by filling a box, there is still time - drop by the church to pick one up.

The next men's breakfast takes place Nov. 11, at 9.15 a.m. All males are welcome. We will observe a moment of silence during the playing of The Last Post at the 10:30 a.m. Remembrance Day service.

The Crafters meet Nov. 6, from 9:30 to 11:30, and alternate Tuesdays in the Fellowship Room. Meet with us to finish crafts, make Christmas gifts, or just stop by for coffee and a chat.

The Annual Craft Sale takes place Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To book a table for your craft display, call Dawn Ballard at (905) 833-5488.

Wednesday mornings (enter by the east or office door) drop in for community prayer from 9 to 9:50 a.m.; or discuss the Scripture readings at 10 a.m. for the following Sunday.

Watch for our Modern Day Saints Tuesday movie nights during Advent, looking at some of the movers, shakers, and martyrs of our day and age.

Start a penny jar to collect Pennies from Heaven for outreach. Also, the Latin America Mission, with whom we sponsor a child in Costa Rica, welcomes guests to the Fall Banquet, Nov. 13, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the Ramada Plaza Hotel. Please RSVP to Nicola by Nov. 7, to represent All Saints', and pick up a map to carpool. Enjoy Latin music, learn about work tours and the five-year plan for LAM, and sense the excitement of new sportsoriented Christian camping in Honduras.

Seniors' euchre

The top player among the ladies at the Oct. 19 euchre evening at King City Seniors' Centre was Barb male (80 points), and she was followed by a three-way tie for second place between Joyce Glass, Betty Simmonds and Dianne Wear (all with 74) and Hilda Fawcett (38).

Leading the way for the men was Cliff Kettlewell (79), followed by Vic Warner (72) and Jack Wear (53).

Draw winners were Joyce Glass, Charlie Zammit and Milla Eigelshoven.

The next euchre evening will be Nov. 2, starting at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
