Knights take part in Toronto Marathon

These hockey players proved they can perform well in marathons too.
The NobleKing minor bantam Knights took on the Stouffville Clippers for the first time this season Oct. 3.

The scoring got off to an early start in the first period for the Knights when Tyler Burtt took off on breakaway and managed to beat the Clippers' goalie with a nice backhander into the top of the net. Later on in the same period, Marco Mussato scored with assists from Thomas Martin and Nick Heintzman.

In the second period, Burtt scored again, assisted by Victor Mifsud. The Knights were up by a score of 3-0 after two periods of play.

In the third, the Knights struck again with a goal from Martin, assisted by Mussato and Robbie Pizzicarola. Stouffville managed to get two goals, but that wasn't enough as the Knights took the win 4- 2. Nice goaltending by John Salome helped the team to victory.

Two evenings later, the Knights faced the Richmond Hill Stars in Nobleton and came out quickly with a goal by Mussato, assisted by Heintzman and AP player period, the Stars struck back with a goal and the game was tied 1-1 by the end of the first.

Plenty of hard hitting and many penalties for both sides in the second period kept everyone on the edge of their seats. There were plenty of close calls that could have put either team ahead.

In the third period, the Star's put two away and take the win from the Knights by a score of 3-1. Great goaltending by Ben Rossetto kept the Knights in the game right to the last minute.

With nothing on their game schedule this past Sunday, the Knights put away their skates and laced up their running shoes and entered the 42-kilometre Toronto Marathon along with their coach Ray Martin.

What a fabulous day the boys had as two runners, one each from two teams, competed together in the eight-leg relay division. The NobleKing boys were the youngest competitors to enter a relay team and each of them completed over five kilometres to complete the marathon. In the last kilometre of the race, the boys all joined together in a display of teamwork with their final two competitors Mathew Perruzza and Austin Martin and crossed the finish line in a time of three hours and 40 minutes. Not bad when a team of hockey players can be competitive in a marathon.
