Hannah Luella Dove, having reached the advanced age of 88 years, one month and 22 days, passed away at Southlake Regional Health Care Centre in Newmarket Sept. 18.
Luella Dove was born July 27, 1919, one of 12 in the family of William and Isabella Matson at Lot 22, west half of Conc. 8, in Albion Township which is now known as Mount Hope Road.
Named Hannah Luella, the Hannah was for paternal grandmother Hannah (Rolley) Matson and Luella for Luella Boyce Wilson, a neighbour up the road.
With a distance of three miles each way, Luella trudged to Palgrave to receive her primary education at Palgrave Public School in Albion as did her brothers and sisters. After finishing school, as a teenager, she worked as a domestic and helped in various homes, but mainly at the home of her Aunt Jennie Moffatt on the 11th Line of King. It was while helping out there that she became acquainted with Russell Moore Dove, and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married in a ceremony in Kleinburg Jan. 27, 1954, by Rev. Bailey.
Having spent most of their married life in Schomberg, Mrs. Dove assisted in the successful operation of Dove's Meat Mart Market and Butcher Shop.
She was a 41 year member of the Pinecrest Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 267 at Cookstown. Members of that Order, conducted an impressive service.
Mrs. Dove rested at the Rod Abrams Funeral Home in Tottenham where the funeral was conducted by first cousin Rev. Howard Matson of the Anglican faith, assisted by Rev. Ann Hepburn of Schomberg and Dunkerron United Churches.
The eulogy was delivered by nephew Gordon Logan, and it included the poem When Tomorrow Starts Without Me.
Left to mourn her passing are Lorna and Donald Simpson, Kevin and Kathy Dove, and seven grandchildren: Leanne, Cheryl, Kerry Ann, Kirk, Kristen, Scott and Kelly and great grandchildren Leslee, Brent and Rebecca. Left with memories of their sister are Vera Dangio, Muriel Wray, and Laura and Roy Matson.
She will be welcomed to her heavenly abode by her parents William and Isabella, husband Russell, son Wayne and by siblings Westney Matson, Stella Logan, George Matson, Irene Scott, Milford Matson, John Matson, Viola Wilder and Robert (Bud) Watson.
Interment was at Schomberg Union Cemetery.
