If anyone is new to the community, King City United is one block south of the King Road and one block east of Keele Street, at 50 Elizabeth Grove. Sunday morning services, including Sunday school for the children, start at 10 a.m. The children participate in the early part of the morning services and then go to Sunday school to learn all about the Bible in the children's way. Fellowship and refreshments follow the services at 11 a.m. for all. This Sunday (Oct. 14) at 10 a.m., the United Church Women are to be leading the morning service to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the UCW. Next week's reflection is to be presented by the guest of the UCW, Jean Nauta. Everyone enjoys the coffee hour and the Fair Trade coffee that comes to the church from the courtesy of the UCW. Take a minute at the coffee hour to find a member of the UCW and say that you appreciate their generosity. Upcoming services include the monthly contemporary service, which is to be held Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. The contemporary services are done with a quartet of professional musicians, playing and singing with the congregation, in praise and prayer of God's music. The children take a part in this musical service and everyone comes away with God's happiness in their hearts and a smile on their faces. Last week we enjoyed the dedication of our refurbished pipe organ. All Saints' organ, with its three manuals or claviers, plus the pedal organ, has now gained both refurbished and additional pipes. The pipes for the lower manual or "great," are placed behind and above the organist. The refurbished "swell" of the middle manual adds soaring tone, through the pipes on the opposite chancel wall. The newest treasure is the heavy wooden base, holding dozens of small upright pipes, for the "choir" or third manual. Beyond the great pipes, and beside the Ascension window, this heavy arrangement needed a new floor built, hidden behind the visible pipes, where it is now housed. Organ restorer John Struve spent a labour of love in setting it up, and many strong men raised it eight feet to its location. The Outreach Committee reminds us that the shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child will be sent on their way Nov. 5. With our 150th anniversary, we are doubling last year's goal to the round number of 150 boxes, and need everyone's shopping expertise. Look for school supplies, hygiene items (no toothpaste allowed this year), toys, wrapped hard candies, or well-made T-shirts. Your filled shoebox will thrill children living under poverty and natural disaster. In turn, the children's boxes open the way to further permanent gifts to the community such as safe drinking water, schools, and medical centres. Drop by the church to collect your box and help us reach our goal. All Saints' looks forward to seeing you at a service or event soon.
