Fall seatbelt campaign under way York Regional Police are going to be spending time over the remainder of this month making sure people use their seatbelts. They will be conducting spot checks in various locations as part of the provincial fall seatbelt campaign. Its aim is to encourage all residents of York to achieve 100 per cent compliance. there will also be an emphasis placed on making sure children are properly secured in car or booster seats. Police said these campaigns do have a positive impact on compliance rates. After the spring campaign, York's rate went from an overall level of 92 to 95 per cent, with King Township leading the way with 98 per cent. They added there have been four people killed in traffic mishaps in York so far this year in which improper or nonuse of seatbelts was a factor. Failure to use seatbelts properly can result in a fine of $110 and two demerit points. |
