Firefighters compete and learn

Fire crews from King city were the first to go to work in Schomberg Saturday in the Auto Extracation Challenge. Meanwhile, Councillor Bill Cober got to brush up on his acting skills, as he posed as the injured victim they had to remove from the car. Fire Chief Bryan Burbidge conferred with him before letting the firefighters do their stuff.
Personnel from the three fire stations in King Township were in competition Saturday in an Auto Extrication Challenge.

They were practising the steps needed to safely remove injured people from cars after accidents, bearing in mind the need for caution in order to avoid making injuries worse.

"Everyone won that day because we all gained a lot of knowledge," remarked Fire Chief Bryan Burbidge.

The crew from the station in Nobleton were the best overall, while Chris Skillen of Nobleton was the best medic and Steve Kiss, also of Nobleton, was best incident commander.
