Contemporary services to start again Sunday at King City United Calendars are filling up with delightful fall activities. On Sundays, come for the early BCP service of Holy Eucharist at 8 a.m. in our 150-year-old chapel, enjoyed by visitors on their Open Doors tour Saturday. Or, bring your children to the second service at 10:30 a.m. in the church where concurrent nursery care, and Sunday school for children up to Grade 6, is provided. We are all enjoying the new blue tones in the ceiling that draw out the brilliance of the stained glass windows of the Ascension. This Sunday (Sept. 30), come to church and stay to make friends over potluck lunch. Anyone may remain afterward for the annual Vestry meeting, to hear reports from all the groups in the church. At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, bring your families to the Choral Evensong, as we dedicate the expanded organ with its new pipes, in memory of Charles and Janet Burns. The choir, and Director of Music Michael Leach, have prepared soaring music for the wonderful evening of praise. Drop in for community prayer Wednesday mornings in the choir area (come and go when you wish) from 9 until 9:50 a.m., or phone in your prayer request. At 10 a.m., a one-hour discussion will stimulate fresh perspective, in advance, for the Scripture readings from the Revised Common Lectionary, used in many churches, for the following Sunday. Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. join us for a tasty bowl of soup, or come directly for the Bible study at 7. Next Tuesday (Oct. 2) we will look at Ephesians 3. Oct. 7 will see our traditional Harvest Thanksgiving, with guest preaching by Rev. Gillian Ball, returning soon to ministry in Mexico. Join us, surrounded by the glories of the harvest, as we give thanks to God for all life's blessings.
All Saints' Anglican Church, at 12935 Keele St. in King City, is a few doors south of King Road. Office hours are Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you know of a need or would like prayer, please contact the church office, or Rev. Nicola Skinner, at Contemporary service at King City United King City United celebrates the fall season with another contemporary service, this Sunday (Sept. 31). If you think that Church is the "same old thing," then check out King City United Church Sunday at 10 am. The Church will be celebrating the fall season by Making a Joyful Noise unto the Lord. The KCUC Praise Band has been rehearsing to lead the service, featuring acoustic and electric guitar, base, keyboard, percussion, a vocal group, instrumental and vocal soloists. The service is multigenerational, the music upbeat and celebratory. Bible lessons will be presented through a Children's format and an adult-focused Homily. Rev. Bob Biggar, makes the Word both relevant and applicable to one's modern fast paced life. All are invited and welcome. This is the third year that KCUC has been including a contemporary service as part of the monthly services. Due to the enthusiastic response by the KCUC congregation, the greater community and the work of KCUC musicians, the service has become a feature of KCUC's worship every six weeks. "We are blessed to have a number of members in our congregation with the talent to make this type of service a reality," stated Gary Hubbard, music coordinator of the services. The music includes modern arrangements of traditional and new music, and is an upbeat Christian celebration. The service is very upbeat and intergenerational; a nursery is provided for the very young. We hope the community and those seeking a church home will support this type of service and will join us in what we know will be a high energy, respectful and meaningful relationship with God. The church is at 1 Elizabeth Grove, one block south of King Road (off Keele Street, just up the hill from the old fire hall.) The service starts at 10 a.m. Call (905) 833-5181 for more information.
