Terry Fox Run attracted more participants and money than last year

Groups of walkers were ready and heading out on to the course at the start of Sunday's Terry Fox Run at Wellesley Park in King City. There were some folks who found an easy way to go. Carys and Trinity Evans received a push from Kelly Bolton and their mother Rhonda Evans. The routes were also complete with water stations, and Vicki Hastie, Holly Werda and Kelsey Berger were on deck with the refreshments.
The annual Terry Fox Run went ahead as planned in King City Sunday, and organizers are heralding it as a great success.

Event coordinator Lisa Barenthin said there were 225 people out to take part in the run, about 20 more than last year, continuing the Marathon of Hope Terry started years ago.

As a result, more than $24,500 was raised locally, which is better than double what was collected in the 2006 run.

Among the individuals, families and friends who attended the event, were three corporate teams who made the trek to Wellesley Park from various locations across the Greater Toronto Area.

Thanks was expressed to this year's local corporate sponsors, whose contributions made the event such a success: Body and Soul, Caravan Canopies Canada, CIBC, King Fire and Emergency Services, King City Marketplace, King Township Public Libraries, King Township Sentinel, King Vaughan Weekly, Girl Guides of Canada, Pine Farms Orchards, Pizza Pizza, Schomberg Quality Meats, TD Canada Trust, Township of King, York Region Board of Education, York Region Emergency Medical Services, York Region Separate School Board and York Regional Police Service.

And finally, a very special thank you to the many volunteers whose time and dedication to this cause continue to keep the Terry Fox Run an annual event in King Township.

If anyone is interested in having a corporate team attend next years event or would like to volunteer (community service hours accepted), call Barenthin at (905) 833-2697.
