Need policy for heritage homes Thank you for your insightful editorial on owners' rights regarding heritage homes (Aug. 29). I attended the council meeting Aug. 27, at which the future of the Pringle house was discussed. The owner, Maria Gallo, made a gutsy presentation in defence of owners' rights. Somehow, at no time did anyone define exactly what the public gains from declaring a house to be a heritage house. There surely needs to be a public policy for all to see. What comes to mind is the right of the public to enjoy looking at house into eternity. What about looking at pictures of old homes, if we want to recall them. I hope council takes care to make the right decision, taking into account owners' rights, as well as some apparently undefined public rights. Margaret Coburn, Schomberg |
